Labor History: Boston Police Strike
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Police_Strike

"Newspaper accounts exaggerated the level of crime and violence that accompanied the strike, resulting in a national furor that shaped the political response."

1. Read "The Given Day" by Dennis Lehane
...a riveting account of the working conditions that led to the BPD strike, and public-sector collective bargaining in general.

4. Thanks
I will check your stuff out. Unfortunately been fired up by some friends who turned out to be libertarian/tea bagger/anti-unionists who posted comments to a pro-union Facebook comment I left and created a firestorm on my page with my progressive friends. It's lead to me spending a lot of time reading up on labor history.

5. The upside is you read some interesting history
I felt like the voices were calling me though. Very compelling stories.
