5. Finger in the wind, positioning himself for a run for office.
The anti-union thing is backfiring big for Republicans. Joe was FOR union-busting before he read the polls, now he's against it. They're a big constituency, and he'll need their support if he's to be able to help break them after he's elected to something.

6. I tend to agree....
Joe is positioning himself as the moderate centrist in Republican politics. I still don't trust him.
