I am disappointed that no one mentioned WI at the Oscars.
While they were all thanking their hairdressers and make up people and everyone else who helped them win. Most of them Union people. It would have been good to hear some solidarity from the Hollywood crowd. Nothing like showing how above the little people you are.

4. He was thanking everyone and...
the woman on stage with him said, all "union people" and he said, "yes, union people." I can't remember what category they won.

2. Yep... they are union members too...
Most people in the industry are.

They had a fairly strict list of rules this time around. I wonder if this is part of those new rules?

Still, I think it was a very large oversight for these union members.

3. Made Hollywood seem divorced from American reality.
It was a lousy show altogether.

5. I do remember a couple of the technical category winners
mentioning unions. But the reception from the crowd was some half-hearted applause. Really surprised considering the majority of that room was probably union.

6. if they get their news from mainstream sources, they may not have any idea about wisconsin
:grr:

A couple of people--the guy who won for cinematography (Wally Pfister) and one of the two who won for sound mixing--did make a point of mentioning that their crew were union workers, and Pfister apparently elaborated on his comments backstage, including talking about what union membership meant to him and how appalled he was by the Wisconsin bill. I think that was it, though ...

8. Yes - I heard at least one specifically thank his union and I only watched
for a few minutes.

9. Vague "pro union" references
is not the same as specifically calling out Gov. Walker or giving your support to the workers in Madison.
How about, "To our brothers and sisters in Madison, hang tough." Something like that.

10. The only people who get the opportunity to make "call outs" are the presenters
and the winners. At least half of the presenters and winners were foreign (mostly UK), which suggests that they may not have been following the drama in Wisconsin. And- one of the presenters was dead (Bob Hope).

16. Given the lack of M$M coverage, would viewers get the reference?
It doesn't sound like WI is getting much coverage

17. They did, it was weak, but they did. This post is misleading.
That they did at all was a win. Those guys down there are so frenzied about the awards these day, more than ever.
Better to make a little hay of the fact that "Unions" WERE discussed.

18. Too vague
and to weak for me. My OP says WI not just Unions. I am disappointed that no one addressed Madison specifically.
This was a very big bullhorn for some one to use, I am sorry no one did.

21. A Whole New Post that discusses the vague "Unions" mentions, and
the lost opportunity of historic Oscar political statement moments.
This post is about a lot of people telling you about the cinematography and sound guy.
