Thought I'd make some much needed changes to the Pledge of Allegiance
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 09:27 AM by drokhole
Everyone knows the Pledge has undergone changes to best fit the times over the years. Seems to me like we're long past due for an update:

I pledge allegiance, to the corporations, of the United States of America
And to Wall Street, for which they stand,
One nation, under Greed,
With liberty and justice for few

Sorry, but given what just happened in Wisconsin yesterday, I was feeling inclined to the histrionics this morning. Feel free to make your own. Personally, I was torn between "Wall Street" and "the military complex" for the second line.

1. Happy to be the 5th rec.
I'm inclined to histrionics as well. I was raised to be so ladylike and now I'm friggin' furious and my language reflects that. Being a Pennsylvanian, that includes referring to our Oil Lovin' new GOP governor as a Frack Ho, as in fracking, as in hydraulic fracturing, which is out of control in this state. Our new governor's campaign's largest donor was Big Oil, so he's gutting the regulations and vowed to be the only major oil producing state which does not impose an extraction tax on the oil industry. Even Palin's Alaska & Bush's Texas have extraction taxes!
Hey, Big Oil!
No taxes and no regulations!
Come on up to Pennsylvania, boys. We're open for Bidness!

Added bonus! The fracking water is introducing radiation to our water supply.
New Pennsylvania license plate motto:

Pennsylvania: We friggin' glow in the dark!

3. Those "Natural Gas" corporate PR commercials absolutely disgust me...
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 10:16 AM by drokhole
...not sure if you've seen them, but the ones from ANGA (America's Natural Gas Alliance). Also, this from their website:

"The established, scientific consensus is that our nation now has as much natural gas as Saudi Arabia has oil. We are the envy of the world for this natural abundance. It is time we put it to greater use for our nation's economy, environment and security."
http://www.anga.us/

Sorry to hear that you live in the thick of it, what they're doing is beyond absurd and completely unjustifiable. I'd go so far to say it's a crime against humanity. And, what's more, fracking is now being investigated as a source of a gigantic uptick of earthquakes in Arkansas as of late - 800 in the past 6 months!

http://planetsave.com/2011/03/08/arkansas-earthquakes-linked-to-fracking-two-gas-disposal-sites-suspended/

It's absolutely unreal, except for the fact that it makes perfect sense when you considered the assholes behind it.

(Thanks for the rec! :toast:)

13. Even if it wasn't radioactive, they're keeping the chemicals proprietery.
They're fucking with other peoples' property, pumping shit into public water supplies that's unknown, and they hide behind their status as a private and corporate entity. They put their debt and environmental havoc on the public, and keep their profits private, as much as they can. If they can lobby the government to lower their taxes even more, they do it. They're fucking evil.

15. Also, love when those execs are offered water from wells near fracking sites...
...and they straight up refuse to drink it. And when I say 'love,' I mean those assholes should be forced to drink it for as long as they keep drilling.

2. Recommended.
We also need to update the oath sworn by military inductees because they are supporting and defending the profits of the multinationals and not the Constitution.

4. That's the incredibly sad truth!
Some Republican was just on the Senate floor "honoring" the "sons and daughters" for "giving their lives for our freedoms." What a load of shit. It's more like 'giving their lives for corporate contracts and public adherence.'

6. Yeah, was thinking "Capitalists" since a lot of corporations are multi-national...
...but the US really was their breeding ground. Still, a good idea - thanks for the response!

9. Just finished, everyone needs to watch.
This is the kind of movie people need to set up viewing parties for.

11. Yes
My wife asked me why don't they ever show a movie like this on TV.
I think we know the answer to that.
Since it'll never be on TV your idea of viewing parties is excellent.
Also recommend it to people.

PS Shock Doctrine is on Sundance Channel on Monday at 7:05 PM.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, try to see it.
It's also very eye-opening.

12. Thanks so much for the heads up, got it set to record!
Totally agree on the TV front - and, yeah, it's not in their best interest, and it's absolutely absurd. Instead, we get shit like Charlie Sheen's crap show, or his crap personal life, shoveled on us.

Viewing parties are great for getting dialogues going, as well. Wish it wasn't so difficult getting people together/interested. Also, would be neat if they screened stuff like this for free at town auditorium once a week (we have something like that where I live, but they only show classics). But, again, you always have to deal with apathy.

I recommend stuff like this at every turn. Food Inc, The Corporation, GasLand, and the Tillman Story were other eye-openers as of late.
