Remember not to abuse it though, too much, no agonist, say good night gracie

8. Who said that nothing is going wrong?
Shit is clearly going wrong. I am simply not going to jump on the bus full of people screaming about nuclear holocaust.

I've been taking lorazapam for years. I know how to stay alive.

safe nuclear reactors are...did you already forget?

11. Well we will not get a holocaust out of this
that is for sure.

But we are having a very significant event.

Oh and remember, DO NOT abuse that pretty drug and it is highly addictive.

But you could do people a favor by explaining to them why WORST case North America night get 300 Rads and why 750 is a lethal dose and wrong and how dispersion is exponential as well as fallout, shall we use a word we rubes will get, power goes down exponentially from the zone.

So 300 Rads is really high still, with all going wrong.

I made that mistake earlier, but hey gallows humor what can I say?

You could even start with the real basics of Alpha and Beta Waves and what stops them and then gama rays, the real problem. Instead of telling us... see nothing to see here.

Nuclear power is great, unless you have an incident...

15. Alpha particles can be stopped with a piece of paper
And are generally not nearly as harmful unless you ingest them.

Beta particles can be blocked with a thin barrier in the same way that alpha particles can be stopped. Those exposed should make sure to remove all clothing they are wearing to avoid beta burns. Other than that, just make sure to keep clean and dispose of any contaminated clothing, etc.

Gamma rays are much more penetrating. Lead, steel, concrete and dirt are good barriers and should be used in layers.

16. There you go
I knew you knew that, I did explain that earlier to a DU'er who is really scared. Why I said, I MADE a mistake when I scoffed at only 750 RADS

Going into light water reactors, and heavy water, and rods, and SCRAM and all that ain't gonna work.

Another lesson from emergency services... when you got a mess you do not tell people why the widget is safe. They are not receptive.

I mean LOOK AT THE TV!!!!!!

By the way, nuclear power in the US is dead... you can kiss it goodbye, and from global weather change that could be a problem, but this is not the moment to have that discussion ,

22. The Russians will detect the leak first.
I suspect they have monitoring equipment in the Kamchatka area. They should be picking up radiation very soon, if not already.

The Russians do not have a great love for Japan, so I have no doubt they will announce very loudly and quickly.

This is the latest info update from TEPCO on Daini:

http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/press/corp-com/release/11031233-e.html

They are venting reactors 1-4, but they have no information about leaks from the reactor into the containment vessels, and monitoring radiation shows no rise in radiation. Earlier they had suspected a leak at 1, but if they have vented and don't see a rise in radiation, that seems unlikely.

Given that, the situation seems as contained as it can be. Another earthquake might change that, but right now, everything's controlled at Daini.

The real problem is still at Daiichi, where they dumped seawater into reactor 1 and then boric acid:
http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/press/corp-com/release/11031231-e.html

That's two hours older than the Daini update, so....
