Totally Japanese. Tokyo Electric Power Company.
In other astounding news, S&P announced a few days ago that it was considering downgrading TEPCO's credit rating.

3. Isn't it both TEPCO and GE? |

How can any government trust corporations re the truth about what's really going on?
Why are governments blamed when corporations fuck up!! BP, big coal, this one, the robber barons, etc.?

GE makes some nuclear reactors, and I think GE might have designed at least the 1970s versions of the reactors, but no one but TEPCO operates these.
Toshiba designed and supplies a lot of components for these reactors. I only know that because I saw it in article I read about Toshiba engineers being sent out for this recovery effort.
TEPCO does have a questionable safety record, but after the 2002/2003 that was supposed to be tightened up.
All governments regulate reactors, unless it is a government reactor in the first place. I don't think any government does trust private companies. I think they are supposed to inspect and verify. Whether they do or not is another thing.

:hi: Based on how governments regulated the bankers and what I've been reading about maintenance of some of these reactors, we should all be worried. I heard Obama this afternoon saying that there would be a complete review in the US.
