If bombs start to drop... |
|
Obama and Company have gone from being our party that needs a kick in the ass now and then to being the opposition party.

6. Did you also support Iraq War 1? |
|
I think it's disingenuous to say that those who don't support the no fly zone also don't support the rebels. Many rebels don't want Western interference. It's a civil war and they want the right to self-determination.

15. Iraq War 1 was not the same thing. |
|
Iraq had invaded another country. It wasn't until the end of the conflict that there was murmurings of an uprising, which Bush I allowed to die in a well known massacre.

10. Why is the term "genocide" being used with regard to current events in Libya? |
|
I have not followed closely, but is there a racial, religious, or National group being targeted for annihilation? That would meet the definition as I understand it.
Murder, at minimum, seems an appropriate reference, but why "genocide"? Is it the "wow" factor?

30. It's a bad use of the term, |
|
but in all fairness, I get the impression that people don't feel the word "massacre" carries the magnitude they are trying to convey. The death toll could easily be over 100,000. That's mass murder or massacre in my book, and bad enough without calling it genocide.
Maybe it's just that the other words have been devalued.
There is a slight, and archaic, ethnic difference though between Libyans from the east (Cyrenaica) and NW (Tripolitania), as well as some others.

5. So only the opposition party would support the Libyan people... |
|
in trying to overthrow a government that is committing genocide? Qaddafi is slaughtering his people with a mercenary army lead by his sons. The people have asked for our help. This isn't about politics.
I am for the party that opposes genocide.

20. Egyptians are supporting them with arms... |
|
Are they unsavory?
The entire Arab League supports the rebels, which does include Syria considered by many as an unsavory government.
It is, however, irrelevant to consider who supports them. The rebels have asked for support against a government that is murdering its people. Supporting the people of Libya is the right thing to do.

our help against their government.
The people of Bahrain have not yet reached a point where they asked our help.
Interestingly, Bahrain is part of the Arab League and supports a no fly zone.
I know they are foreigners and it's easier to let them murder each other. It keeps our conscience clear.

Put AMERICAN boots on the ground (or in the air) in ANOTHER Muslim country? Great fucking idea. A couple more and Obama can have big giant NFL style GOLD RINGS made all covered in diamonds and rubies and sapphires. He can wear one on each finger... IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, LIBYA, IRAN and maybe PAKISTAN?

I fear that soon the cost of the ink may exceed the face value of the bills it is printed on.

Not the US. Canada, France, the UK--not us, not yet anyway. The desperate attempts by some people to paint this as some kind of psychotic warmongering imperialism on the part of the Obama administration are getting increasingly pathetic.
