Looks like we got our oil deal with the Lybian rebels
Best time to negotiate is when the other party is at their weakest, like for instance 20+ days into an assault by pro-Gaddafi forces. Sign on the dotted line and get yourselves 110 missile strikes.

Of course in a day or two Gaddafi will be at HIS weakest and the air strikes could magically end.

Cha-Ching!

1. Needless to say, your link says nothing about an oil deal.
Basically, you pulled that bit of "news" out of some obscure orifice.

...that 'Libyan' get spelled correctly?

Thank God the multi-nationals will be able to get their oil from the rebels -- Lord knows Qadaffi refused to do business with them.

5. That's my point -- if you make deals with both sides you can't lose
eg lose control of those oil fields.

Sarcasm is the least efficient form of communication.

10. Who's "we"?
I don't ignore any pain and suffering that I know about.

If you're talking about the US government - why do you identify with it? Do you feel it represents you?

It's just - maybe this language is at the heart of some of the conflict on DU about this. If you say "we", I take that to mean all Americans. So I take it personally and feel like you're saying the only reason I care about the Libyans is because they live over oil. If you said "The American government" would ignore it, I would not take it personally or feel the need to defend myself. I would most likely agree with you, although I would also point out the other, non-oil related specificities of this situation that I feel led to action by the UN here as opposed to other places.

Pronouns are powerful things.

11. let me try again.."looks like the powers that be got their oil deal"
I meant "we" as in whoever Hillary Clinton and the British who negotiated with the rebels for the last 10 days represent.

I'm not saying that the world should work this way. I'm saying that it does.
