A bit of historical perspective on the Wisconsin recalls:
In the United States, there have been 20 recall elections for state legislators. 4 of these have been in Wisconsin. Two of the 4 attempts in Wisconsin succeeded. These are startling numbers if you think about it. Twenty percent of all recall elections in the nation occurred in Wsconsin.

What this seems to boil down to, in historical terms, is that if you had to pick a state in which a recall effort would have the best chance, that state is Wisconsin.

4. Yeah, by 8.
At which time there will have been 28 recall elections in the US, of which 12 occurred in Wisconsin. We have a very good chance in 4 & a fighting chance in 3 more. I think only Grothman the Obnoxious is fairly safe since he comes from a district excessively populated by troglodytes.

5. Well, go get 'em Jack...........
And even in Grothman's case, you guys need to put up a candidate. Since the opponent probably is not going to win, make him a firebrand leftie, even a socialist. Make Grothman put out some effort and MAYBE spend some money. At LEAST harass him.

6. Spent Saturday afternoon in St. Croix Falls Wi.
gathering signatures for Harsdorf recall and was happy with the results. Going to Fredric, Wi Monday morning to help out up there, St. Croix will be covered by others. Pleased to report there is much more opposition to her than even she expected.
We are also passing out info to elect Kloppenburg to the Supreme Court so people understand the connection between Walker and Prosser

9. You don't think it sends a message?
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 12:06 PM by PeaceNikki
I think it matters.

And as Jackpine posted, they're 4-year terms: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisconsin_Senate

11. It might send a message, but it doesn't do any real good. I think that time could be spent doing
something more productive.

Tell me, what specifically we can do that's more productive than trying to stop Walker from getting his shit legislation passed until we can recall him?

I'll be waiting...

15. Organize more people to vote. GOTV and door to door canvasing in red areas
are the best bets.

16. Yup, we're doing that, too WHILE gathering the signatures.
It's a great opportunity to have the discussions with people about all of that. It's crazy.

there, haven't been back since I left in '81.

18. You do see that these recalls are *in* red districts, right?
All of the people involved in the recall efforts fully understand the importance of voting and are using the opportunity to have those discussions during these efforts. The two work quite well together and the recall teams have a very good grasp of all of this.
