2. Even he left that party. |
He started his own party, The Bull Moose Party, because he was so disgusted with the repugs and their greedy antics.

4. Teddy Roosevelt was the last of the old-school Republicans, who were more progressive then. |
When Teddy ran under the Bull Moose Party (the Progressive Party in other words), he sucked out so many progressives from the Republican base that the party fell under the control of Taft and other right wing elements in the party at the time. The Republican Party has become a right wing party since that time.

5. I think he is over rated |
His administration was so corrupt he was barred from running in 1908. His vaunted anti-monopoly crusade had little affect on the ruling class, but made him look good. He was firmly anti-union and even worked behind the scenes to try to get Big Bill Heywood convicted in Idaho. I could go on and on, but after reading many books on him, including his own I think his "progressiveness" was largely a vote getting show. As a ruling elite put it "his bark is much worse than his bite."
He only looks good in comparison to his predecessors and those that followed. We have never had a really progressive president in my opinion, even though FDR and LBJ came close.
