Interesting items found in body cavity |
|
"A doctor recovered 54 bags of heroin, 31 empty bags used to package heroin, prescription pills, and $51.22" http://www.policeone.com/bizarre/articles/3442136-Cavity-search-produces-54-bags-of-heroin/----- Wow. That is one heck of a "CAVITY" - 54 bags of heroin, some pills and $51.22. The average person rarely has more than a flintstones chewable and about $12 in any random body cavity

4. Look! Your body doesn't belong to you, It belongs to the government! How fun! |
|
The government can form a search party to root around inside your body to make sure you don't have anything they don't want you to have, in there! Isn't that just hysterical?
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! A LAFF RIOT!!!

I quote: "Authorities say 27-year-old Karin Mackaliunas was detained last weekend following a crash. Scranton police say they found three bags of heroin in her jacket and after being taken to the police station she told investigators she had more hidden in her vagina."
If cops find heroin on you, and you tell them you have more hidden in a body cavity, they will recover it as well. In fact, if they DON'T recover they will be arguably civilly liable for knowingly introducing contraband into the jail population. You can't book somebody that you have PC to believe has heroin hidden in their person WITHOUT removing it (pursuant to warrant, etc.) because you will be knowingly introducing prison contraband (a felony in most states) as well as the fact that you are responsible for the safety of the jail population, and the knowing introduction of heroin places them at risk and makes you liable.
Oh, also note that case law does not allow cops to do a cavity search w.o strong PC, a search warrant, and only a qualified medical professional can perform it. A very tiny percentage of arrestees are ever cavity searched.

16. I TOTALLY agree. I am against it myself |
|
But that's not really relevant to the issue here. Also note even if there was no drug war, you would still not be allowed to introduce heroin into a jail population. Heck, even introducing caffeine tablets can get you in serious trouble.

8. Maybe I don't understand the business, but aren't empty bags common |
|
everyday items that don't need to be hidden? Why wouldn't she just put them in her pocket, along with the cash, or buy some at her destination?
Sounds like she got caught up in the challenge...

9. Generally speaking, dealers, etc |
|
will hide the empty bags because they understand that while these bags are not PC in itself for a search (obviously), they raise cops' suspicions, especially if the person is gaunt, has track marks, and has pinpoint pupils, etc. If you are carrying drugs, you want to (although many of these people are not mastermind criminals) do as much as possible to allay suspicion. Of course you could always claim to be a stamp collector. In my state, syringes are over the counter and run from about .10 to .25 each. Yet, addicts will still save used needles and use them over and over again share them, etc.

14. She also told cops they were there. |
|
Which is what, in addition to finding drugs on her person (corpus delicti in addition to her admission), gave them PC to get a warrant for a cavity search (I assume they got a warrant. Article doesn't say either way).
Since the heroin was found after a crash, I am going to make another wild assed guess, and suspect the initial investigation was for DUI, she was zonked on heroin and possibly a polydrug combo, same often being the reason people make some really moronic admissions.
I am not one of those people who say "never talk to police". I think it's often helpful, and ime (many years), people frequently help themselves by doing so, especially when obviously innocent and expaining why. However, it is probably not in your best interests, subsequent to arrest for possession, to let the cops know that you have substantially more drugs (supporting a possession w/intent charge vs. the mere possession charge) hidden in a place where the cops would never have legal authority to look anyway.
