They're really scared aren't they? |
|
The RW pundits and politicians are terrified Obama will actually succeed where Bush failed, in regard to armed intervention. They are talking him down on every network and you can hear the desperation in their voices. Republicans have always wanted to be seen as the "war party", and they can't let a democratic black man succeed where they failed.
If only Bush had been.............smart.

The problem is if enough voters get chumped , it makes it that much easier to twist the outcome. I'm half expecting anytime a presidential election is anywhere close from now on, it'll be an automatic GOP win.

Political rhetoric isn't even rhetorical anymore, it has become a boringly predictable farce playing to hysterical and/or drunken masses of lamebrains.

4. Just a reflection on the whole system. |

My guy is great your guy sucked. An I will readily admit that I fall into it constantly. Bush did suck and I root for Obama daily. But, reality sets in that anyone in that position has to make some legitimately awful decisions that will cost lives at the end of the day. If anything, it gives me more respect for people that I once considered enemies of the state.

5. I Think Most Of Us Know If Obama Didn't Make A Move On Libya And There Was A Slaughter Of Innocent.. |
|
people by Ghaddafi - the same group that is criticizing him now for going into Libya would be criticizing him for not going in. Especially the media as that would probably make a better story for them.
Look - Obama is the President. He's on a tightrope all the time and any decision he makes he realizes he will have to take lumps for from somebody or some group.
Bottom line - in my mind is - he's a good and decent man and because of that I trust him to make the right decision for this country.
Will he make a mistake from time to time? Sure - he's human. Humans make mistakes. But for the most part I believe that he'll make more good decisions than bad ones.
With respect his Libya decision. I'm going to back his judgment on this one.

1. He should have gone to congress in addition to the UN 2. He should have made the traditional announcement from the Oval office.
I was disappointed in Rachel that she tried to spin those things away as somehow unimportant because "this president is different." Yeah well, he should have done them because without those two things it seems like he's trying to get away with doing something he'd rather not be associated with.

As congress is the branch that declares war, many people here still would disapprove.

It was McCain-O-Rama. The nasty, old fuck was on bitching about how the President was "too slow to act". He may have used the favorite new repug word of the day, "dithering", but I turned him off after about 45 seconds.

12. you base this on all his other failures? |
|
He is pretty good at picking his battles in a figurative sense. Now we shall see if he is good at picking his battles in a literal sense.
I am betting he accomplishes enough to declare victory and get out. Victory has not been defined beyond saving civilian lives and he can already claim that has been achieved.

22. I base it on how successful all previous regime change/democracy installation |
|
operations have been. There is no way he can declare victory with Gaddafi still in power and there is no way he can remove him without full scale military invasion and occupation of Libya. If history teaches us anything, it is that such an operation cannot be "successful" in public's mind no matter how it turns out. Unless, of course, he can warp the fabric of our universe and negate the natural laws with awesome power of his mind. Which he seems to think he can do.

Obama is President, and I will support our troops in their ordered duties as well as the President, but getting involved in this was complete folly, and I will not hesitate to say as much. Obama would have been far wiser to tell the UN to have fun with their no-fly zone, but we would have nothing to do with it.
Can someone tell me whose side we're on? Because so far, all I can tell is that we're bombing Libya in order to support someone who is ... not Qaddafi. Whoopie! They're not Qaddafi! Who are they? Hell, I don't know, but who cares? They're not Qaddafi! Hooray!
Not smart. Not smart at all.
