Source of mysterious Gulf oil spill found
Just hours after a new sizable oil slick was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico off the Louisiana coast, a Houston-based energy company came forward to claim responsibility for the latest round of crude tainting the area.

Anglo-Suisse Offshore Partners issued a statement last night expressing "surprise" that what it claimed was a minor leak from a well that's been out of use for some time could have produced miles-long slicks that garnered national media attention. The company has been in the process of permanently plugging the well -- located in a shallow area about 30 miles southeast of Grand Isle, La. Anglo-Suisse owned a cluster of five platforms in that area that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

According to the Times-Picayune's David Hammer, Anglo-Suisse has filed three incident reports with the Coast Guard since last Friday. In those documents, Hammer reports, the company explained that as it used a remotely operated submarine to plug the well, some oil had been discharged into the Gulf.

4. that people would have hijacked a passenger plane
and crashed it into Gulf Oil Rigs, causing them to leak! If they had given us aisle and seat numbers, perhaps we could have prevented this tragedy.

Now it's an oil spill again?

7. It's "a minor leak from an old well that's been out of use
for some time" -- so clearly it's not their fault, it's Obama's fault.

8. Yeah, a shiny, sheen of floating silt...
...that had to be dredged up from the bottom suddenly got light enough to float on top of the water.

LOL.

6. So it wasn't sludge from the Mississippi River?
Oh, never mind, I didn't believe that BS when I heard it. It's always a "surprise" when they find out who is responsible.

10. Bet that they were hoping that the "small" amount of oil leakage that occurred
Edited on Wed Mar-23-11 02:21 PM by Urban Prairie
might be initially thought to be related to last year's BP gusher, and/or that it would quickly dissipate before it could be traced to them. Regardless, what "punishment" will they get besides at most a slap on the wrist and an index finger shake?

Perhaps due to what BP has gotten away with as a result of their "ecotastrophe", any further and smaller well drilling/capping mishaps like this in the GOM, kinda makes me believe that these companies will consider and treat the GOM as a giant oil disposal/dispersal pond, since apparently the feds and especially the RW believe that BPs spilled oil is "all-gone" now...

11. At least this one's allegedly been replugged.
So hopefully the scale of damage will be far smaller with this spill than with the BP Gusher...
