This little factoid was aired on one of the noon newscasts in Detroit.

Not mentioned was the fact that the MEA head had sent a letter to all of its local units last week urging those locals to consider a statewide job action.

Link for the MEA letter: http://www.livingstondaily.com/article/20110320/NEWS01/103200312/MEA-may-call-teachers-strike

Things may be just warming up in Michigan.

3. A job action would be a serious mistake...
The Wisconsin labor protests generated sympathy because the protesters were sympathetic (wanting to work but being restricted by the Republican Govt). A job action in Michigan would make similar sympathy evaporate. Voters wouldn't call their legislators to settle the issues and get teachers back in school, they'd call to get them fired, punished etc; add to that the Republican legislature would then have an opening to restrict both bargaining and strike statutes.

5. Beware of the American Association of Educators. They are
astroturning papers with anti teacher's union editorials.
