Republicans attempt to end public education - Wisconsin
Edited on Wed Mar-30-11 12:27 PM by Scuba
The big picture: End public education through lies and deceit

Today, Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) and Representative Andre Jacque (R-Bellevue) announced they will be introducing legislation providing a non-refundable tax credit for religious and independent schools beginning in school year 2012-2013. The credit will start at $1,500 per year for every first grade student and $2,500 for every ninth grade student. The following year, second and tenth graders will be added to the program with additional years added each year until all students will be covered by the 2021 school year.

4. A direct attack on the republic.
We get caught up on the technocratic language of the public school "debate" and lose sight of the aim, which is to deny education to the citizenry and to make the state an agent of the wealthy.

6. $1,500.00 a year doesn't even come close to covering the cost of private school...
So, for all those folks who can not afford to send their children to private school, this is meaningless. Even the $2,500.00 a year doesn't come close.

This appears to be a way of providing a tax break to those people that can afford to send their children to private school. It means dick to the poor and most of middle income people.

It will not end publich educaion. It will make it worse.

7. So the rich will get discounts to send their kids to their
private schools and the regular folk will have to figure out how to come up with the rest of the tuition or send their kids to the public schools which will be even less funded then they were. With the billions in cuts already slated, add the voucher cost and the public schools will be falling apart due to neglect.
