Bloomberg.com is apparently watching DU, quick act nonchalant and ultra-rich!

Boy, I think I should go read fascinating Bloomberg articles on test-driving $200,000 cars or complaining about the marbling in American wagyu steak!

(Snark aside, I do post quite a few of their articles on business statistics--but I find it endlessly amusing we've been "quoted" in one of its articles.)

6. I recall a DU discussion years back about the possibility of man-made earthquakes.

I recall the NY Times mentioned it. The thread was locked. The whole thing was considered an embarrassment to the forum. I was really surprised and disappointed since there was considerable discussion about the possibility by Russian scientists.

Now, as a result of fracking, there isn't as much tin-foil assertions thrown at such talk.

Google: fracking earthquake

8. Again, I recall discussion about the possibility of man-made earthquakes.

That is to ask, could human activity cause an earthquake. In the case of fracking, there are concerns serious enough that the practice was halted in Arkansas.

I did not suggest George Bush was involved, as you have injected into the conversation.

As an example, a recent AP article quotes Scott Ausbrooks, Geohazards Supervisor for the Arkansas Geological Survey...

Ark. quakes decline since injection well closures
By Associated Press on March 14th, 2011

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The number and strength of earthquakes in central Arkansas have noticeably dropped since the shutdown of two injection wells in the area, although a state researcher says it’s too early to draw any conclusions.

“We have definitely noticed a reduction in the number of earthquakes, especially the larger ones,” said Scott Ausbrooks, geohazards supervisor for the Arkansas Geological Survey. “It’s definitely worth noting.”

I thought you were talking about the Bush earthquake machine stuff. There are also posts about HAARP out there.

10. I'm thinking somewhere in 2005, though not the second link you put up.
As far as the man-made stuff I recall, it had to do with underground explosions. Seems a reasonable thing to wonder. A REALLY big bang (think atomic) right on a not so sweet spot.

12. Actually, I think Renew Deal is correct and it was about underground explosions
causing quakes. Quakes caused by something like fracking would hardly have been thought of as controversial decades after what happened at Rocky Flats.
