ALEC for Campus Carry - NRA article and video

ALEC for Campus Carry

Michael Hough of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) joins Cam Edwards to discuss the council’s decision to endorse this Right-to-Carry legislation and to continue their efforts to pass laws allowing licensed gun owners to defend themselves on college campuses. In the last round of state legislative sessions, ALEC’s model bill was introduced in Texas, Louisiana and Arizona, but got lost in committee or red tape.

-snip-

in the video, Hough not only talks about Campus Carry but boasts about how an ALEC member in Tennsessee was successful in overriding the governor's veto to allow people to carry guns in restaurants.

See the long compilation topic on the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) for more info on the organization.

1. Why the sudden hardon for carrying on campus?
Have college students suddenly turned into shivering, cowering bundles of fear that can only be soothed by the security of carrying a weapon?

The new lesson for our college grads: face down your nervousness with lethal force.

I don't think so.

2. I've been going back and forth about this...
...but what it boils down to is that I've had friends who were beaten and/or raped on campus, and none of them deserved to have that happen. They all, however, deserved a chance to fight back.

3. I'm not at all that the lack of firearms on campus contributed to those tragedies.
Nor am I convinced that the presence of weapons will change that.
