AP: Feds suing Iowa dog breeder

http://www.omaha.com/article/20110331/NEWS97/704019925#feds-suing-iowa-dog-breeder

Published Thursday March 31, 2011

DES MOINES — Federal officials are suing for nearly $19,000 in fines against an Iowa dog breeder who’s been cited repeatedly for mistreating animals.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is targeting 56-year-old Gary Felts, who owns Black Diamond Kennel near Kingsley in western Iowa.

Felts could not be reached to comment.

The lawsuit says federal inspectors with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service have cited Felts several times, including for having dogs whose coats were matted with feces and dirt and for failing to protect dogs from the elements.

In June 2010, an administrative law judge ruled that Felts had willfully violated federal regulations. Felts’ license was suspended and he was fined nearly $19,000. — AP

3. And shutting them down!

Plenty of awesome dogs at shelters. People need to get over the designer dog thing.

4. We got the best one from a no-kill shelter.
The shelter found him at a county pound, one day from death.

After treatments for mange, his fur came in for us and how.

10. It's possible. We were told he was a 'PomChi.' Part Pomeranian/Part Long-Hair Chihuahua.
In person you really see the Long-Hair Chihuahua, but his good nature and playfulness comes more from the 'other.'

8. Our Dug was abandoned as a puppy left in an empty apartment no food or water

We got him last June. He loves his family. Here he is tearing apart a toy with the evidence on his face.
