Redding bike wreck spawns multiple lawsuits
An October 2009 bicycle wreck at Clover Creek Preserve has spawned a lawsuit against the city of Redding, its Redevelopment Agency and Innovations Housing, the affordable home developer once known as Habitat for Humanity.

Stephen Moyher, a retired California Highway Patrol officer, was riding his bike westbound out of the preserve toward Shasta View Drive around midday when he ran into a cable strung across a space between a gate and pavement's edge, court and discovery documents show.

The cable was meant to keep ATVs, dirt bikes and other recreational motorists out of the preserve at night.

The collision sent Moyher, 66, face-first over his handlebars onto the asphalt. He broke several facial bones and teeth and suffered damage to his nasal septum that continues to cause sinus and breathing problems, according to court and discovery documents. All told, Moyher's medical bills for intensive care and reconstructive surgery have totaled about $280,000, according to documents.
