Ford, built without your tax dollars
That was the sign in front of the Ford dealer in Davenport, Iowa. :sarcasm: Makes me feel real good about having choosen a Ford over a GM product last December. :sarcasm: If I remember next time I'm down there I'll see about getting a picture. Meanwhile I am registering my disgust over this with Ford.

1. What is the Problem With That?
Ford did not require a bailout our a buyout, unlike the other US automakers. Good for them!

I think Ford's success puts the lie to the claims that the difficulties of the US automakers
are the fault of unions and the benefits that they have won for employees.

Ford is a UAW union shop too.

8. On the other hand, in theory, GM and Chrysler would be more on the hook to the American people.
If you had a powerful left wing president, the American working class' interests would be channeled through the White House into GM to compel them to sack crappy management, design more fuel efficient engines, and pour more money into research and development of hybrids and electric vehicles. If, on the other hand, you have a president that always punts when the time comes to strike hard, then you're simply going to see a golden opportunity to fix up some of these companies go to waste.

5. While the "anti-tax" sentiment is not very nice, I do think it sends a good signal.
I wish it could be post-fixed with "Your tax dollars are better spent in schools, firehouses, police stations, and roads."

6. Ford Credit did not sell housing mortgages as did GM-Chrysler GMAC, so, Ford did not borrow from US.
They did not buy into the conservative recklessness.

Ford does deserve some kudos.

9. Not only has Ford been a better citizen than many (most?) other US industries....
...they build better cars and trucks. Thank you United Auto Workers for the seven Fords my family and I've driven over the past 15 years. Very reliable, very well built.

Before Fords, I drove VW's for 15 years.

Before that, a bunch of junk, foreign and domestic.

10. I don't see that as a bad thing
Sure, the dealership owner is probably some dipshit KochHead, but beyond that, who cares?

11. Was the sign a company sign?
Or just something the dealer dreamed up?

12. Ford took over top spot from GM in customer loyalty too...
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/driveon/post/2011/03/ford-leaps-in-owner-loyalty-takes-top-spot-from-gm/1

Ford saw a whopping increase in owners who say they will be loyal to the brand last year compared with 2009, a new analysis shows.

The R.L.Polk study shows that Toyota owners were shaken a little by the automaker's safety and quality troubles last year, but largely remained steadfastly loyal to the brand. It remains near the top.

The Ford brand increased its owner loyalty rate by 4.5 percentage points and led all brands with an owner loyalty rate of 60.3%. It overtook the position that General Motors had held previously. The increase came as Ford products generally got higher marks in quality surveys and as the brand dodged the bankruptcy proceedings that dogged fellow Detroit brands General Motors and Chrysler during the depths of the recession.

Good job Ford.

Sid

15. I'd rather have a picture of a ford as to have the keys to a chevy, dodge, japanese pieces
of shit or any of the other brands. I had a MGBGT once for a few days and I liked it but my 6'2" frame didn't fit well so I got rid of it.

13. Absolutely nothing wrong with that sign -
- and Ford has every reason to be proud of the fact that they managed to stay afloat without government assistance. Since when is success and good management a BAD thing??

14. I'll take a 10 year old ford over any other brand thats brand new
and still be driving my old ford when all the others are in the scrap heap. In my 50 years of vehicle ownership I've owned almost one of every brand and a shitpot full of fords and its the fords that always got me to where I was going, can't say that about any of the others.
Once years ago when I was but a kid I had an old ford that threw a rod right through the side of the engine, 292 ci. It was night time and I was tired and was needing to get home so as to get some rest before my day started at 6 am so I thought, wonder if it'll still run, when the rod came through the block it had killed the engine, so I get in and tried the starter and sure 'nuf it fire up and ran so I drove it on home, slowly of course cause the other piece of the rod that was still connected to the crank was making all kinds of noises. The next morning I drove it the couple miles to work and one of the guys that came in the gas station where I worked at the time said let me see after I told him about it. During our conversation he suggested I put a potato in the hole to stop the oil from sloshing out so I could get back and forth to work while I looked for another engine. I drove it several days with a potato stuck in the hole.

Now that is tough.
