In victory, tea party can taste only ashes
In victory, tea party can taste only ashes
Commentary: This is the high point for the movement
By Rex Nutting, MarketWatch
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Dozens of members of the antitax, small-government tea party were swept into Congress after last November’s elections, promising to take back the government from the bureaucrats and the big spenders. They promised to change the way Washington works.

Now, four months later, it looks as if the tea party might have its first real success in trimming the size of the government. They ought to be celebrating, and plotting their next move. Instead, they’re mad as hell.

--snip--

Honestly, it was the only battle they could win. For all their infatuation with the Constitution, they’ve failed civics.

And their math isn’t that good either.

In our republican, democratic, federalist system, a movement that represents only a third of the people (or less) cannot expect to get 100% of what they want.

1. First of all I call bullshit on these articles
A party means something. It has deep roots, deep belief systems, a method. The Tea Party has none of this. It is a group of rednecks and far right conservatives that are a combination of racists and people who think solving the budget problems are cutting "entitlements" only.

There's no substance to their "belief" system. A budget deficit is fixed by two things. Cutting spending AND increasing revenue (taxes.) They are so blind they only see cutting. In addition, they only want to cut social programs. I haven't heard tea baggers say anything about cutting defense. They are flawed from the beginning.

The Tea Bag parties don't represent 1/3 of the people like the article states. They represent maybe 5% of the people, if that. I'm tired of the media trying to shape these ass-clowns into some sort of "force."

2. Oh but you don't understand.
.... if you cut taxes (especially for the rich) and reduce business regulation you will have a VIBRANT ECONOMY.

That's what the moronic right is telling us and even after the last 3 years they have the unmitigated GALL to keep talking that bullshit. And unfortunately way too many Americans still believe it but their numbers are starting to dwindle. Something like not being able to eat focuses the mind.
