COLUMBUS — By the 2013-14 academic year, teachers’ pay and job security will be based in large part on how well their students score on standardized tests as well as how the educators interact with parents, students and the community.
That is just one of dozens of significant reforms included in Senate Bill 5, which Gov. John Kasich signed into law on Thursday night. Union leaders have vowed to put the new law up for a voter referendum on Nov. 8.
The new merit pay system mandated in Senate Bill 5 will be applied to Ohio’s 146,000 K-12 teachers and indirectly impact 1.78 million students in 613 school districts.
