Dog drifting atop roof rescued off coast of Kesennuma (today)
http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/04/82673.html
A dog was rescued at sea off the coast of Kesennuma on Friday after being found drifting atop a roof believed to have been washed away by the killer tsunami triggered by the March 11 earthquake, Japan Coast Guard officials said.

Coast guard members aboard a helicopter involved in the day's search for those still missing after the disaster found the dog on the roof drifting along some 1.8 kilometers off Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, at around 4 p.m., according to the officials.

Three of the members approached the dog in a lifeboat and rescued it about an hour later after initial rescue operations by the helicopter failed as the dog got away from the roof to lumbers and other debris floating nearby, the officials said.

The dog's blackish collar has no clues about the owner such as address and contact numbers, they said. The dog was keeping quiet and ate biscuits and sausages on a patrol boat, according to the officials.

1. Surreal. I saw pictures of a fully-intact house floating miles out to sea.
Just surreal.

Some of the sites I've seen translated in Japanese call it the "Black Tsunami". That's really starting to stick- this thing is still so far beyond my scope of understanding. Most of the things I've seen I could never have imagined happening in any plausible sense- and yet they did.

2. Have you ever wondered?
You never hear about wild animals being rescued. Do you think they know to flee before these disasters strike, like they have some innate warning?

5. Supposedly they did about half an hour before the Christmas tsunami years ago.
Animal perception is not as involved with thought as humans, which keeps us so busy we have lost contact with the Earth.

The claim was that the island's animals, even very big ones, ran for the hills. It goes to reason they could sense the vibrations under the Earth, as well as feel the magnetic shifts, perhaps. Migrating birds are said to do that by percieving EMF.

There were claims some tribal folks on boats also knew it was coming and rode it out, that they expect these things. It was a group that had no concept of money or property, if I recollect correctly.

Something to do with being in tune with the Earth's resonant frequency and having an uncluttered mind.

Don't shoot me, I just pass this stuff on. That story was on cable.

6. You're probably thinking of this story
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/01/0125_050125_tsunami_island.html

One of the regions hardest hit by the December 26 tsunami was an extremely remote chain of more than 500 islands known collectively as the Andamans and Nicobars. . . .

Anthropologists initially feared the tribes could have been completely wiped out. But Indian Air Force pilots flying sorties over the islands days after the tsunami reported seeing men who fired arrows at their helicopters. Since then there have been reports that the islanders used their ancient knowledge of nature to escape the tsunami. . . .

The first reliable reports on the fate of the Andamanese tribes indicate that most have survived.

Their awareness of the ocean, earth, and the movement of animals has been accumulated over 60,000 years of inhabiting the islands. Oral history teachings and their hunter-gatherer lifestyle might have prepared them to move deeper into the forests after they felt the first trembles of the earthquake.
