"Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

3. Pfffft. That's the New Testament.
Most Republicans can't get past all the juicy stuff in the first few books of the Old Testament.

5. They get to the new testament - the just skip over the Gospel
Paul is more friendly towards old-testament laws than Jesus ever was.

14. True.
A lot of hardcore R's are really Paulists, as opposed to Christians. We're studying 1 Thessalonians in my bible study right now. I read through some of the other books written by Paul as well, I think he's kinda kooky.

Yes, I am an evangelical christian and a hardcore liberal-progressive democrat, please pick your jaw up kthx.

15. Consider this about Paul
He was one of hundreds of people who spread the word of Jesus Christ after Jesus's resurrection. And yet where in the old testament was Paul prophesied? He is a product of the bible created by the Nicene council some 300 years after Jesus. Paul probably had the best documentation of any of the people who was out there spreading the word so his stuff got into the bible.

This is why Paul bothers me - he was one of many messengers and yet you already can see him distorting what Jesus had done in the gospels. Serious fundamentalists do not follow Jesus, they are like you said - they are Paulists

And in my opinion any true believer of Jesus could never call themselves Christians. I'm a solid Christian and yet progressive too.

4. No. He needs to read II Kings 18:27
But the Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and to drink their own urine?”

And that's why Rick Scott has a shit-eating grin....

9. Because they inject religion into it
I like to point out the obvious - their faith includes all but 4 books of the bible and to me they are the most important 4. Anyone who calls themselves a Christian and follows the words of Jesus would not be doing the things these horrible republican governors are doing.

11. So you think to beat them at a game they wrote the rules to?
We should be hammering them on first amendment grounds when they try to inject religion into governance, not giving them a different religious point of view. They don't give a shit about different religious points of view, because if they did they wouldn't be trying to legislate theirs.

12. No I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy
They claim they are Christians and yet do things that clearly go against what Jesus Christ was all about. You dont' have to be a biblical scholar or devout Christian to see where I'm coming from.

13. True
and well said, but will fall on deaf ears. It is not consistent with the "propserity gospel".

Once you understand that wealth is a sign of God's favor, then you can come to the conclusion that as long as you are rich, everything is good. If God was displeased, he would and certainly could make you poor.

I don't buy this stuff and have no clue how they extract it from the words of Christ, but regardless, it is what it is.

16. Jesus said lots of hateful, cruel stuff too.
The book is a complete mess of stuff that was made up and used by Constantine to consolidate his political power and oppress people.

I would read the Sermon on the Mount, and a few other good verses and throw the rest of it out completely.

18. I take you have only read snippets
You are of course welcome to take it or leave it as you might. Most of what has been used to oppress people was and is rumor and interpretation of the text which worked best before it was translated into languages that common folks could read. Very, very little of the text purports to be the actual words of Christ.

19. But the thing is,
these people like Scott, Kasich and Walker only profess their Christan faith. They really do not live according to the precepts of Jesus. They are actually no more Christian than Ossama Bin Ladin. They are CINO -Christian in name only.

Because I hate using the word Christian with these folks but CINO makes sense because they are Christian in Name only
