After four decades in redstate hell, I'm going to relent

I first became politically aware during the Watergate era, which was occurring during my family's move to Idaho. Art Buchwald was the closest thing I had to political commentary back then, but the awakening had commenced, and in a few short years I would cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. The entire rest of the family, here in Idaho as well as back in California, were and are evangelical Reaganites. All but a few of my co-workers over the decades have been republicans, if not Limbaugh-lovin' rightwingers.

Living here as I have hasn't been easy. Anytime the news of the day has been the topic of discussion in the break room, meeting room, the golf course, the restaurant, the experience has basically been one of having vitriol against anyone and anything to the left of Henry Kissinger handed to me with the usual smirk.

As I head into my mid-Fifties, it has struck me that the divisiveness over events I have no real control over simply isn't worth it. I need friends and family and neighbors who will feel supportive of me instead of always drawing a target on my chest for still another verbal potshot. So it is with a great sigh that I have decided to take an about face and embrace the tenants of Republican philosofee in witchever way eye can. It wonte bee ez leafing behind those thinks I half beleeved 4 so menny yeerz, but i fele i halve no choys.
