I worry about how Cantor thinks he is going to enforce HR 1. I think it might be worth investigating whether the Republicans are threatening some kind of coup. I mean, even if Cantor does not know how a bill becomes a law, somebody on his staff does. Yet, the GOP proposed that bill. Why?

If we take them at their word -- that they intend to impose their bill on the country regardless of what the Senate and president do -- then what we have on our hands is sedition.

No one is planning a coup. Its absurd. They know that Cantor's proposal is unconstitutional and ridiculous. But they are simply playing to the teabaggers for cheap political points.

When guys like Cantor feel free to propose things that are clearly illegal, then we have entered into a new phase of politics. We are lurching toward a place where the rule of law starts to seriously break down.

One can assume that Cantor is just a moron -- and maybe he is. But, what if he knows what he is doing and is really trying to make an end-run around the Constitution? Given his position, I think we should proceed assuming that both things are true.

20. Have you actually read the "Government Shutdown Prevention Act"

Its a gimmick bill. On its face it doesn't do anything unless its passed by both the House AND the Senate. If that were to happen, which of course won't, then the Senate ostensibly wouldn't have to vote separately on the House-passed budget bill and that bill would then become law. Apart from the fact that generally speaking you can't pass bills by incorporating them by reference (although if you remember from the Health Care Reform debate, there are legitimate procedures that come close to doing that), this is a pure publicity move since the Senate isn't going to pass this bill (and indeed may never come to a vote.) Critical thinkers realize this is just a silly publicity stunt.

I have no problem with making fun of Cantor and the repubs for this goofy move. But since no one, not Cantor or anyone else, is claiming that this bill (the Government Prevention Shutdown Act) can take effect without the Senate passing it, its just a dumb publicity stunt by repubs who will claim that they passed a bill to prevent a shutdown and the Senate didn't act on it, so if a shutdown occurs, its the Democrats fault.

That, not a coup, is their game.
