"We need to drill here"
These are cute catch phrases thrown about the media in terms of how to deal with the rising costs of energy but what do they mean?
Do they mean that the USA citizens actually own the oil? That extracting from the USA means it is somehow our oil?
I just saw a "Professor" on the Dylan Ratigan Show talking in these terms.
When did we nationalize "our" oil?
WTF?
:nuke:

5. I get the feeling they'd love to "drill baby drill" right on top of Nob Hill, in SF |
|
Even if there isn't any oil there

2. Most Americans are stupid enough to just accept this, but the oil 'we' drag out of the ground goes.. |
|
.. on the global market, then gets sold back to us. It really doesn't matter where it is drilled for the US.

7. I'm quite surprised the RW is not more defensive of our natural resources. |
|
You'd think that at the least, they'd want to keep it in this country for chrissakes.

9. Just where is this oil? |
|
Even smart people like Moreci, the economics professor on Ratigan's show, seem to have the impression that all you have to do is drill a well any old place and you'll find oil.
Truth is that in the lower 48 we reached peak oil thirty-five years ago ... there just isn't much more to drill for here.
There's oil in Alaska, ANWR, and off-shore ... that's pretty much it.
And do any internet research on oil shale and you'll quickly find that it is an illusion.
So, "We need to drill here" are just words and don't mean very much.

10. This is a piece of stupidity that never slows it's roll. No matter how often this is spelled out in |
|
the plainest possible language.
In fact, it seems like more and more fall down this ludicrous logic hole as time goes on. Now Democrats are biting more and more too.

11. I have got into so many arguments with brain-dead RW morans about "Drill Baby Drill" in threads |

on other forums online.
Some of them (being the slightly less stupid amongst them) reply with the idea that global oil prices would drop as a result. (despite the fact that US oil refineries are already processing crude near full capacity, and no new ones have been or are being built in decades...idiots!!) I also counter with the fact that OPEC would curtail their production accordingly in the event of a "glut" of "our" (lol!!) crude oil caused by ramping up additional production within the US, which would also take years to reach a sufficient amount to even make a dent in global crude oil production.
But they of course disagree... :dunce:
Rightwingers are obviously full of shit anyway, they whine about leaving their children and grandchildren with trillions in debt (of course only when a POTUS with a "D" next to his name is in office). But apparently they could not care less, if their progeny is left with little if any significant untapped crude oil reserves, of which future generations might use much more frugally and creatively with improved or discovered/invented technology.
Fucking hypocrites, the lot of them.

12. Ask them why most of the wells in the Gulf are capped. |
|
Ask them what BP was doing with the rig that blew up. "Were they pumping oil?" No, they had just "cemented the wellhead". That oil would not have been pumped for years. There are hundreds of capped wells in the gulf.
