It's the ignorance, the non-stop propaganda, the indifference of far too many, and the crap that the Republicans have been preaching for decades about "entitlements." Many Baggers are bigots. Many are totally uninformed. And many are just plain dumber than dirt.

And having said all that, they are being controlled, egged on, riled up, and kept going by big money interests who recognize useful idiots when they see them.

Furthermore, they are used to send out envelope-pushing trial balloons, to gauge just how blatant the theft can be. They also skew the judgment goalposts, so even if the government pushes through legislation that systematically pulls the society down, many people will take solace in the perceived fact that "at least those fucking 'Baggers did not get THEIR goals passed."
