We need a repukes gone wild forum: Montana Rep. Says DUI Laws Are 'Destroying a Way of Life'

Mar 31, 2011 – 3:47 PM

There are victims of drunken driving. And, according to one Montana legislator, there are victims of drunken driving laws.

While speaking out against a proposed bill that would make DUI laws more strict for repeat offenders, state Rep. Alan Hale, R–Basin, said drunken driving regulations hurt local businesses and are "destroying a way of life."

"These DUI laws are not doing our small businesses in our state any good at all. They are destroying them," he said in a speech on the state House floor. "They are destroying a way of life that has been in Montana for years and years."

Hale, who, according to his campaign website, runs a bar in Basin, says pubs are important gathering places in his rural Montana district -- important gathering places that are only accessible by car.

5. Not all towns in Montana have public transportation.
Some don't even have a lot of paved roads. Your graduating class was probably bigger than many of our towns.

15. I am not advocating drinking and driving. I am against it.
I was pointing out the situation. Towns with populations under 1000 people are very different than towns with a population over 50,000 people. Drunk driving is still extremely dangerous and unethical in small towns, but you can see why many people are more prone to accept it.

2. In honor of 27-month old Sean Leaf Tadeshi Oyama
Who was killed by a drunk driver on the way to Disney World, who teethed on my fingers and charmed me out of potato chips before he could speak, I hope this murderous bastard plows into a tree on the way home from his latest convivial fundraiser and takes no one else with him.

I have zero tolerance for drunk drivers or their defenders.

4. Well, he IS telling the truth. They are destroying a way of life.
You know, the good old days, when we got so drunk we couldn't walk and drove home. And usually got there. The big problems were the times people didn't get home.

9. As someone whose sister and several friends have been killed by drunken drivers...
...I flip that mother fucker off and would gladly stick my foot so far up his ass that he'll be sneezing toe jam for years. :wtf:
We don't know exactly what happened with my sister's wreck. The circumstances were fishy, but nothing concrete ever came of it, and the guy was never tested for drunken driving, even though he was going 60 in a 35. The guy that killed my friend Krystle in Stillwater OK left a country bar, and got onto a 4 lane divided highway going the wrong way WITH HIS LIGHTS OFF. She never knew what hit them. The three other people in the car lived, but they are all disabled. He got 11 years in prison. They let him out after 2 or 3 of those years because apparently killing someone in that manner and having to serve a prison term for it is cruel and unusual punishment.
Our DUI laws here in the US are not strict enough if anything, and we're ruining a way of life? WTF? Seriously? Pull that shit in Europe and see what happens. You will never drive again at minimum. We are in the stone age when it comes to protecting lives in this country, but apparently the only lives that matter in this world are fucking fetuses. Well, you piece of shit, my sister was 8 months pregnant when she was killed in her car accident. Does that make a difference now?
:grr:

11. Time for the cops to investigate his "establishments"
Edited on Fri Apr-01-11 07:42 PM by Canuckistanian
Are they allowing or even encouraging their customers to drive drunk?

Are they contributing to this so-called "way of life" that actually kills people?
