5. I remember as a child being told that I would probably never see a Bald Eagle because
they would all be extinct within a few years.

Then about eleven or twelve years ago, I saw my first Bald Eagle flying low over the Intracoastal Waterway while attending my son's soccer practice. As of today, I have seen between twenty and twenty-five different Bald Eagles of differing ages, one of them actually flying over my house. What a thrill!

I've also seen Whooping Cranes, very rare and nearly extinct, flying to their winter homes in Florida. And in the last ten years, at least five Whooping Cranes have been killed by idiots with guns.

6. Eagles have been a success where I live.
At the peak sighting, we saw two males fighting over a female when we went to a soccer game.

9. There's a local, wealthy, well-connected family that own a property where a pair of eagles are nest
they want to clear cut the property for development of a marina and resturant.

The DEC says no, you can imagine how well that went over...
