How many of you live in red areas of extreme poverty? |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-02-11 08:51 PM by w8liftinglady
I see SO many three-generation households... not by choice, but necessity. My partner sees SO many of his students that don't know where their next meal will come from. Do other Dems see this, and wonder what else they could do?
I'm at my wit's end here in Texas.

1. Saw it in extreme rural TX. Not a pretty sight. All GOP there, some KKK and skinheads. |

The neighboring county has the highest unemployment in our state. Yet these areas are very conservative.
Our school district has a mix of extreme poverty to comfortable upper-middle class families. There is no more working middle class, just like the rest of the country.
I don't know what democrats can do except to work for more democrats to be elected and then to hold their feet to the fire for more help for the poor. Unfortunately, the country seems to be headed in the opposite direction right now.
What have you been working on, that you are at your wits' end, w8liftinglady?

4. I have been trying to organize Democrats in Ellis and Henderson Counties. |
|
It's a tough one. They are ostracized. The locals fall into the religious must be republican mindset. My partner's county is 94% caucasian,90% Republican. My county-the liberal one-is 89% Republican.
We lead in uninsured/minimum wage. irrelevant.

5. No wonder you are at wits' end! |

:banghead:
A lot of our locals fall into the same mindset. I cannot understand why people will vote against their own self-interest, but they do so repeatedly.

Our neighbors ,Stan. help them pull themselves up by their bootstraps,if you can pull yourself away from your computer long enough to do so.
