Scott Fitzgerald, Senate Majority Leader WI - fundraising letter:
Scott Fitzgerald
Senate Majority Leader
March 22, 2011

Dear Ruth,

Government employee unions have ruined California and Illinois, but they're not going to ruin Wisconsin.

That is because Republicans faced down Big Labor's bully tactics and a Democrat walk-out in the State Senate to break the power of unions like WEAC and AFSCME once and for all.

Now that we have won the legislative battle, Democrats and the union bosses want to overturn the results of the 2010 elections and recall every Republican State Senator they can.

Barack Obama was heavily invested in stopping Governor Scott Walker and legislative Republicans -- so much so that his White House, along with Washington union bosses, was directing the actions of the fourteen Senate Democrats who fled to Illinois to gridlock the legislature.

Why? Because his reelection in 2012 may depend on the undivided support of government employee unions in the Midwest. Without their massive resources and power behind him, his campaign may stall in Wisconsin -- a state that will be critical for him next year.

Obama's political machine knows full well that other states may follow our lead, so they are pulling out all the stops and throwing their support behind the recalls of several Senate Republicans.

The old union tactics of fear, smear and intimidation are alive and well.

They even picketed my home to intimidate and scare my family. They packed the State Capitol with raging mobs of union protestors -- many from other states -- who had been worked into a frenzy by union leaders. They even made death threats against those of us who stood up to their political clout.

I take these threats extremely seriously.

The last month has been a stark reminder of what we can expect -- and what these people are capable of. They will stop at nothing to recall enough Republican Senators to gain a Democrat majority. We must fight back immediately, because there is a chance they could succeed.

As Senate Majority Leader, I will be guiding the Republican campaign to fight off this attack on our conservative values -- and I cannot overstate how high the stakes are right now.

Your generous gift of $500, $250, $100, $50 or $25 to my campaign will be used to fight the Democrats and union bosses who are trying to recall the courageous Republican State Senators who stood up to them.

While I cannot be targeted for recall until next year, it is clear that Democrats and Unions will try at that time to remove me from office because of my vote.

I must be prepared to deal with this possibility.

We both know that the Democrats and Big Labor will have unlimited money and man power from all over the country to wage their attack on us.

Republicans swept the 2010 elections in Wisconsin because we made a commitment to actually fix what is wrong with our state budget and our climate for job creation.

This commitment is why we stuck to our guns in the face of unprecedented union thuggery over the last few weeks. We promised to be adults and to make the tough decisions -- and we plan to keep that promise.

As our economic struggles continue, we must not back away from what it will take to repair the deep, structural problems with our state government -- and the multi-billion-dollar budget crisis left by Jim Doyle and the Democrats.

But if we lose our majority now, all hope for meaningful changes will be lost.

The Democrats want to return to the Doyle years. They continue to think we can push our budget problems onto the taxpayers -- and dozens of protest signs littering the State Capitol openly called for higher taxes and attacked job creators.

They didn't get the message from their 2010 catastrophe. Voters are sick and tired of Madison overspending, high taxes and bureaucratic red tape.

The era of big government is over. Republicans have kept their promise to limit government and balance the state budget without tax increases.

Your generous financial support at this pivotal time is so important. We must show a unified front and muster all the support we possibly can to fight Obama's recall campaign against the Senate Republicans -- but we must act NOW, or we might lose everything.

Their recall effort is ramping up right now, so please do not hesitate.

Sincerely,

Scott Fitzgerald
Senate Majority Leader

P.S.
Weakening the power of the government employee unions is a critical step for Wisconsin's fiscal health -- and has huge consequences for Barack Obama's 2012 presidential campaign. That is why Obama's political machine is getting involved in the recall of Republicans who stood up against Big Labor. Obama's political machine will pour unlimited resources into Wisconsin over the next few months, so please send your most generous financial gift today so I can begin to counter this assault. Thank you so much for your support -- Scott.

Paid for by Scott Fitzgerald for Senate, Bonnie Fitzgerald, Treasurer.

2. "raging mobs of union protestors"
"union bullies" right! The only bullies in this mess were the REPUBLICANS who threw temper tanrums and tried to illegally arrest, and make daily threats to our democratic senators.
