That Biblical rice paper is nice and thin.

5. It'll make the fundies abroad happy, proving Americans will burn any book! That'll show 'em! |
|
And we'll close all the schools, throw the old folks out of the nursing home, kick the kids to the curb homeless and without food!
What a great example we're setting for the world...

6. As a Christian, let me just say - |
|
- to go ahead and have your burning. I have great love and respect for the Bible but they're nothing but paper and ink and you burning it certainly doesn't impact me in any fashion.

|
I don't think that any act by one idiot should change my opinion that it is wrong to desecrate a group's holy book, even if I see little value in it.

was destroyed in a house fire many years ago and I can just run to B&N to get a new one.
The milagros won't burn anyhow.

If it's worth doing - it's worth doing right. Better throw in a koran just to make sure all the bases are covered....

destroy something that has meaning to others whether it be the bible, the koran or a comic book. I find it just plain wrong and cruel. :-(

That would really tick the fundies off.
Seriously though, I wouldn't burn any religion's holy book. I disagree with most religions, but I do have some respect for them.

The US military burned a bunch of bibles sent to Afghanistan: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/05/20/us.military.bibles.burned/Bible burning in Israel: http://articles.cnn.com/2008-05-28/world/bible.burning_1_messianic-jews-deputy-mayor-israeli-radio-and-television?_s=PM:WORLDThis one's very funny; not only is this a Protestant church that believes in sola scriptura, the ONLY VALID TEXT is the King James version. So they decided to burn some other "satanic" versions to make a point: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/6346662/North-Carolina-church-plans-Halloween-Bible-burning.htmlI still wonder if this was really a publicity stunt; surely they cannot believe that Genesis was originally written by King James? It happens all the time. Making a point in Norway: http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1261100.ece

|
Edited on Sun Apr-03-11 08:39 PM by JFN1
Jeez, lighten up, will you people? THIS kind of failure to empathize and to avoid self-examination lies at the heart of the ROT eating away at our civilization.
If you cannot see the utter hypocrisy my OP attempts to poke fun at, if you cannot be honest enough with yourself to recognize the TRUTH of that hypocrisy as it applies to the crazy fringe in our society, I would like to advise you to get a really long mirror, bend over in front of it, and ensure you have nothing protruding from any bodily orifice which might account for an overabundance of self-righteous indignation, which is very likely blocking the ability mature adults possess to laugh at ourselves when someone points out the ridiculous double standards we all accept in our culture.
And in answer to the inevitable "why are you going off so hard on this" - please carefully read above - I have explained it fully.

31. If I were into burning things |
|
to make some sort of statement, I think I'd go for burning the Jones church.
But ignorant people wouldn't be educated, so ti would serve no useful purpose.
The whole eye for an eye thing that is mentioned in the bible is bullshit. So is escalation.
Education is the only worthwhile endeavor. It's why science and teachers are vilified in this society.
