Question to voting trend gurus - Potential Dem voters and voters center to left... |
|
For some time I've operated under the belief that if the Democratic Party truly became a party of the people, then we'd win elections consistently and hands down. But lately my thinking has started to change a bit and what I'm wondering is if people from both sides of the center are contrasted, that it would show those center to left would be a much larger pool of people who will not even bother to vote consistently and are more easily manipulated into voting for people who create policy against their self interests.
In other words, the numbers of people who just do not vote and who probably won't vote are much numerically higher center to left, than that of center to right. And I think Thomas Frank's book What's The Matter With Kansas sort of backs this up a bit.
Thoughts?

1. I think people are apathetic, don't get involved unless affected directly, with short memories. |

I think people are easily swayed by slogans and sound bites and "populist" views.
I think people are comfortable when they aren't challenged to think for themselves.
I also think people are afraid of change because they fear things can get worse than they already are.
This is the reason I believe Fox News is persuasive as it is. It's formula fits what these people want.
Now I have a question...how do I do that sarcasm thing I've seen other people use when they post?
Please pretend there is that sarcasm thing at the end of my post.
