I wasn't the only one who thought today's Google Doodle was dumb

Seriously, Google: A Doodle About Ice Cream Sundaes?

The Internet A message to the fine folks at Google: You don’t have to greenlight every idea for a Doodle that comes along. Birthdays of famous figures from history we can get behind — we’ve been known to dabble in that a bit ourselves — but celebrating the invention of the term “ice cream sundae?” What?

I could kind of understand if they were celebrating the anniversary of the invention of the sundae itself, but they’re not, because nobody knows when that was. There’s some dispute over when and where the term was invented (though there is general agreement that at first it was “sunday” instead), but Ithaca, N.Y. has the only claim with any sort of documented evidence, in the form of the first known printed mention of the term, in an 1893 newspaper ad.

8. I grew up in small-town Michigan where there was a local dairy with its own ice cream parlor...
.
.
.
...with FIVE-scoop strawberry sundaes for 55 cents and SIX-scoop
banana splits for 65 cents.
.
.
.
I think Baskin-Robbins at the time had three-scoop banana splits
for perhaps $1.50.
.
.
.
I was a small kid with a MONSTER metabolism and appetite. I had
embarrassed MiddleFingerMomMom on more than one occasion with
said appetite when dining out (I remember the owner of an Italian
restaurant who was SO complimented by my attitude towards and
appetite for his spaghetti that he would bring me bowl after bowl
after bowl on the house -- MiddleFingerMomMom was ALWAYS
ready for me to quit LONG before I was).
.
.
.
Once, I polished off one of those strawberry sundaes so FAST that
the waitress said that SHE would pay for my second one if I was
still hungry for ice cream
.
.
.
It may be the first time I ever fell in love.
.
.
.
But MiddleFingerMomMom just thanked her and hustled me outta the
joint as fast as humanly possible.
.
.
.
"But...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...
but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but..."
.
.
.
...said THIS little piggy -- ALL the way home.
.
.
.

3. I am getting annoyed with most of the google doodles lately.
It was a cool gimick at first and is fun when they have a really cool one, but otherwise it's just annoying and doesn't make sense, like the op states.

It still would be cool if they did it one day or two days per month, but now it seems like they've got some goofy image up there almost every day.

5. That's annoying too :) That's why I like Google so much....
is because it's just so basic.

Plain white screen, basic logo, search box. I love that and use it less the more they funk with it.

 It's not like it takes any longer to load.

6. I think it's kind of cute! I rarely see the Google home page, though, so that
could be why I'm not tired of them, or pained to witness seeing them trying too hard.

12. I'm sure Google gives two shits what wired thinks about their doodle.
I don't give a flying fuck about half the birthdays they doodle about either, but I figure some people do. I thought this one was kind of interesting. To each their own.

13. Clearly Google doodles are serious business.
OR some writer at Wired needs to get a girlfriend and stop taking everything on the internet so seriously.
