“Nothing focuses the mind like a hanging.”
The Democratic Party is about to be hanged. It will no longer exist as a useful political entity. It will no longer speak for the poor, the elderly, the sick, or anyone else if the Republican Party is successful in passing their agenda. There is little to give us hope that they have the will or the desire to fight the extremists in the Republican Party. They are too busy making money.

Rep. Paul Ryan is about ready to submit his plan to cut government. It is under the guise of "cutting the deficit". But he has no plans to raise taxes on the wealthy or to cut the Defense budget in any significant way. His plan is to cut government.

"Cutting government" means cutting programs that help people, individual citizens, that need government to live their lives with security, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SSI, food stamps, and other programs that Democrats have fought for over the years. But Congressman Ryan and the Repubs say that we can no longer afford them. The deficits are destroying our country. Out of necessity, we must cut these programs.

But they want to continue to cut even more taxes. They want to extend the Bush taxcuts. There is nothing in President Obama's actions or policies that would indicate that he would stand up for the progressive agenda. Those that defend the President on this are whistling past the graveyard.

The rope is in place and the noose has been adjusted. The Democratic Party is walking slowly up the steps to stand on the door with the open lever. Is there no one that can save the Democratic Party? You might think this is an exaggeration? The Democratic Party would never permit anything like this to happen?

I think it is time we open our eyes and look past the political games and focus on the reality. The Republican extremists are set to do great damage to our country. Just like in 1980, the Democrats are standing by with their hopes that the American people would never vote for such huge deficits and spending as proposed by Ronald Reagan. But they did. And they will again unless there is some leadership from the Democratic Party...and quickly.

1. Then what this means is that Democrats need to get busy
and make sure the senate stays a Democratic majority and the house is whittled down or retaken and the WH remains the home of the President for the second term. Leadership starts with us....not demanding someone else do it all.

3. You are assuming a Democratic majority will fight for the people
and a progressive agenda? That they will not surrender to a Republican minority?

5. Yep.
The Obama agenda has always been progressive, I see no reason to think it won't be. There will be compromise, it's the way politics have always been done....not an Obama first as people try to say. Compromise is not surrender. Giving up is surrender...and we have not seen that happen under this administration.

2. But, as the leadership would point out...none of them fears being hung
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 05:44 AM by HereSince1628
Most of the professional dems moved to the right long ago in order to chase donations from corporate but not corporal donors. The party's interest in the things being hung is a burden they will gladly drop.

The old values are SCATtered and the old party has adopted new thinking that can be called coprologic.

6. The difference between Democrats and Republicans
Is that Democrats steal with one hand and give with the other. Republicans steal with both hands.

7. In the immortal words of Paul Wellstone:
"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans.

I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone
