Another example of how the health care bill is helping regular folks

Yes, there has been much teeth gnashing about no single payer and so on, and I have been one of the people who has bemoaned that fact. But a couple of days ago, a guy at work was telling me about his 20 year old daughter. It seems that she has to go in for surgery for gall bladder problems or something like that. She has not yet enrolled in college, still lives at home with the parents, has no job, and very fortunately is covered under her dad's insurance, which we get because it was collectively bargained for and because of the Health care reform bill of 2010.
He told me that had she not been covered, it would have cost him around $18,000 but since she's eligible to be covered on his policy, it will cost them $500.00 after the deductible. So maybe we should all take a breath, sit back, and realize that this version of health care reform is just a start as long as we elect politicians who will try and build on what we have. It sure is helping this family.

2. Well, first off it wasn't 20 year olds planning on going to college

that were getting kicked off. It was (and still is) kids who were finishing up college and looking for jobs and kids who were not going to college that were getting kicked off.

My 2 children who have just finished college and are looking for their first real jobs got kicked off my insurance. We can get them back on if we pay $24,000 a year. It's more than both kids make right now. They are both very healthy, young and with no medical problems.

5. My 15 year old neice now gets full coverage.

She had cancer at 2, and from that time, the most coverage my sister could get for her was for basic illness (colds, flu) and basic kid injuries. Any illness that might in anyway be connected to the radiation treatment she received when she was two, would not be covered.

Now, she'll always be able to get and keep coverage.

8. My daughter who finished college at age 22 will be on my

insurance until she turns 26, thanks to health care reform. Given her disabilities, this is a blessing.
