Suggestion for a minor action with a clear message against the mega-banks? |
|
I don't know if there is any traction for such an action but if enough people start to advocate it there might be.
Here is my simple suggestion: Everyone who has an account with one of the banks involved in the mortgage foreclosure mess make a deposit of exactly $0.02 to their account on May 1, 2011. It is a small gesture but big if enough follow suite. A way of showing notice that we are major league pissed.
Small action now, we will escalate as they fail to respond, which is a sure bet I know. I could do some initial investigation of how to publicize this action but eventually I would need a big group like Move-On or someone to take over. Does anyone know if I'm legally safe? Or will they attempt to muzzle me for such a thing with some obscure pro corporate bank law that is intended to prevent such and action of free speech? I'm not a lawyer and have limited experience with the law but I do know that I often encounter blatant exceptions to the 1st amendment and they often are in place to protect money interests.
Anybody think this might fly as an action? Is May 1 too soon? I personally have accounts with Chase and BOA. I'll make a $0.02 deposit to all of my accounts with these folks just to increase their paperwork. I'll have to use US mail or the money machine because I'm sure their Online system will guard against this.

1. A bigger statement would be made if you withdraw all your |
|
money and put it in a much smaller local bank or local credit union.

But it isn't entirely practical for me and many others. I owe them money so I can't really withdraw money. But I can make a meaningless $0.02 payment to my credit accounts.
If I make a $0.02 payment to all of my credit accounts it will cost them significantly more than it will cost me. And if we all do it, it will send a message. I am up for withdrawing my money but I have so little of it - really. Usually by the 1st of the month my balance is $0.00 (I get paid on the 15th each month).
