ONE WAY TO COPE WITH RAISING FUEL COSTS

you have to cut your expenses when one of your cost of living items is fuel.(most people use fuel)
GAS PRICES SPIKED ANOTHER 5-12 CENTS PER GALLON THIS PAST WEEK(DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE IN the country.
Here is what we done: we shopped local,saving on gas($6-$10), we got a bucket of Kfc for $10
bucks(instead of eating out sun.)this is two meals for us left overs for dinner today!(savings from last sun=$26-10.80=$15.2o or 4 gals of gas.)
We watched a net flex movie for entertainment ($7.99-PER MONTH) COOKED OUR OWN POP CORN($1=$3 saving) total savings aprox-$20 or 5 gal of gas!
if we all do this how long do you think it will take for business to turn on the oil companies? NOT TO FRIGGIN LONG!
this can work folks-their is more of us than the movers an shakers!

Sorry to tell you this but no one is going to turn on the oil companies, there simply is no short term solution. There real solutions comes when we press for long term renewable energy sources that can be produced locally.

Glad you found some ways to cut back on expenses. But I would argue a bucket of KFC is no savings.

5. Depends on the cost of chicken. Prep time, energy for cooking, seasonings, and all of that

has to be contrasted with the $10 bucks for X amount of chicken.

I bet if a whole chicken is running about 6 bucks then it is somewhere between a draw and KFC comes out ahead.

I cook because it is real food that is usually much better than I can buy prepared not because it is less expensive (especially if labor counts for anything).

I'll give you yesterday's dinner. I grilled burgers for 6, made homemade fries, baked beans, and corn on the cob along with a yellow cake and ice cream.

I used about $6 worth of chuck, a tomato for about .88, a quarter head of lettuce I'll call that a quarter, $2.50 worth of potatoes, $2 worth of corn, a couple bucks worth of Vegetarian beans (not including the stuff added to dr them up, $3 bucks for buns, $1.75 for cake mix, about the same for icing, $3.50 for ice cream, .50 worth of onions or so, and whatever for condiments. That is over $22 bucks right there and I spent way more than that on the food and we didn't pay me a penny nor account for gas used by the range, oven, or the coals.

The reality is 6 of us could have gone out and got the same thing for no more money and a hell of a lot quicker.

2. I like it.

There are many ways to save money -- but basically, it all boils down to common sense and watching the expenses. Doing things for yourself, like cooking from scratch, washing your car in the driveway with a hose and bucket, or making your own coffee rather than going through the drive through on the way to work, all help the bottom line.

3. Nice way to personally save money, but it's naive to believe it will hurt the oil companies.

Those who are being hurt by the rising price of gas will do these things anyways, not out of choice but by necessity. Others will complain, but not change their behavior much. Either way the oil companies will be laughing all the way to the bank. Over the last 30 years many people have thrown out such ideas and they don't work and won't.

Once you get in the habit of these money-saving ideas you'll never go back.
In the future going out to eat will be a real treat once again.

6. Since a boycott is not practical, then just buy less gas.

And you buy less gas by driving less.

That requires some planning before you leave. I'm now organizing so I don't have any unnecessary/extraneous driving. I know what I'm going to buy in the supermarkets (what's discounted/on sale) for the week after I study the flyers and make a list. I do errands on the way to and from work. I'm avoiding driving more than once to the same place or en route to the same place. I'm saving about 50 to 75 miles. (I'm in the suburbs. It's easy to use up 10 miles to drive to supermarkets or shopping centers.)

7. the point is you have no say equal to a business

you "reg joe" can boycott ,holler and scream all you want - little is paid attention "the attitude is tomorrow is another day" -what talks is money! here's an example! I was vocal at my local grocery store about celery jumping to an unheard of $2.99 a bunch! The person in charge of the dept at the time was there! Loudly so every other customer in the dept could hear me I said this is absolutely ripping off the customer and I for one will not pay the additional dollar (usually $1.49-$1.99) because this store is trying to make a fast buck! I continued If others done this the price would soon come down! well yesterday I BOUGHT IT FOR $1.99 IN THE SAME HANNAFORD STORE!
ONE BUSINESS LIKE OF THIS SIZE COMPLAINS TO BIG BROTHER IS EQUAL TO A MILLION VOTERS! SAD BUT TRUE!
THE WAY TO BEAT THE OIL COMPANIES IS TO TURN BUSINESSES ON THEM- THE WAY TO DO THAT IS CONSERVE YOUR SPENDING! NOT JUST USE LESS GAS! WE ALL DO THAT! After I retired I took a job in a convince store!I HAD A CUSTOMER who had a 4 wheel drive extend a cab loaded complaining about the price of gas! he bought a coffee,a breakfast sandwich,2 sweets and two packs of cigs daily and filled his truck 2 times a week!we made about $2 off of his gas and about $15 off his purchases!"these are the people that will effect an attitude adjustment for business"
the more we take off the table the less the profit! money gets their attention more than anything!

8. A better idea is to start growing food at home as much as possible.

Heck, you can even make arrangements to shop for several people at once.

Sadly, though, the big problem is that those Americans who have jobs have no choice but to commute. That uses a LOT of gasoline.
