Glaciers melting at fastest rate in 350 years, study finds

By Lewis Smith

Monday, 4 April 2011

Some mountain glaciers are melting up to 100 times faster than at any time in the past 350 years.

The findings, based on a new ice loss calculation technique developed by studying the glaciers of Patagonia in South America, have worrying implications for crop irrigation and water supplies around the world. The quantity of ice lost from Patagonia is equivalent to a fifth more than the contents of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes of North America.

Scientists behind the discovery claim their findings show that the rate of melting at the start of the 20th century was much slower than previously calculated, but that over the past 30 years it has been significantly faster than suspected.

i.e., melting of the glacieers is also creating more earthquake activity --

and more severe earthquakes --

and volcanic activity.

1. your conclusion does not coincide with that of the study as reported.

2. Decades of that kind of hype
have caused a lot of skeptics.

4. "Skeptics" have only been created with Exxon/oil industry wealth and Koch wealth --

like the last use of the alleged suspicions over e-mail references to

"tricks" by researchers -- and most realizing now that they've been fooled.

The only thing right wing propaganda will do for you is cause you to betray

all common sense.

3. That is not "my" conclusion -- nor is it based on this report --
it's based on what the Pentagon told W in 2002 -- and what any thinking person

can see of Global Warming since then!

The original Memorandum to Bush cites that Global Warming is a bigger threat to the

US than "terrorism." That it will bring increasing droughts/floods, chaotic weather

conditions from cyclones to tornadoes -- to earthquakes. Earthquakes has since been

scrubbed.

Needless to say, increasing hurricanes and more severe hurricanes.

Earthquake activity also triggers volcanic activity --

Melting of the glaciers is causing shifts in earth's plates --

The memo didn't mention "tsunamis" -- but obviously our scientists were correct when

they said that no one knows how all of this will compound with Global Warming.

5. Was that memo peer reviewed?

6. Why not look it up and find out?

Meanwhile, increasing earthquake and volcanic activity is before your eyes!

We have a 50 year delay in Global Warming which means that we are only now

feeling the effects of the damage we have done up to 1960 -- and after that

time we did a great deal of damage to the environment ... steadily.

Can't imagine what BP, COREXIT and Fukushima have done!!

Try: Secret Pentagon Warning to Bush re Global Warming --

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0222-01.htm - Observer/UK

Keep in mind that we've known about Global Warming since 1957 -- and probably

earlier because scientists always recognized the damage the Industrial Revolution

was doing to nature - trees in late 1880's.

See: Chas. Little - "The Dying of the Trees" --

The campaign by the oil industry began almost immediately -- also with attacks

on Rachel Carson. The Royal Academy of Science called out ExxonMobil and oil

industry for spending tens of billions over decades to lie to the American public --

to distort the info and to spread misinformation re GW.

The Scientists Warning to Humanity came in 1992 -- you can also find that on internet.

We've long known that we can no longer burn fossil fuels -- unfortunately private

interests control our natural resources.

In 2002 -- Frank Luntz, chief GOP rw propagandist advised Bush to change Global Warming

to "Climate Change" -- making it sound more normal.
