Dr. Cornel West:"Obama becoming puppet of Wall St Oligarchs"(VIDEO) Great interview!
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 01:13 PM by indimuse
The economic rift between rich and poor in America is deepening, but a new awareness is also taking root among the people. That's the opinion of renowned civil rights activist Dr. Cornel West, who shared his views during an exclusive interview with RT's Marina Portnaya

"Obama has aligned himself with forces that promote the ABANDONMENT of poor people and the NEGLECT of working people." ~Cornell West

Cornell says a whole lot more..... ;)

As far as I can see...WE DON'T have a party in this country the represent The People...NOT ONE!

1. As is Dr. West, by virtue of working for Princeton
Scan down its board of trustees and you will find CEOs from JP Morgan Chase, Prudential Financial, Marathon Oil, Worldcom, Forbes, American Express, Goldman Sachs, and the really evil one: Teach for America!

6. Absolutely true ... and if he did have to
deal with any of those things, we'd be screaming at him, too.

Just saying that it's easy to hand out pronouncements; it's really hard to govern. And I'm sure Cornell West would be the first to admit that. If he thought about it for a moment.

I suspect maybe even many here. Yet they continue to bash the very corporations they support.

28. Hopefully more and more are waking up.
I don't own stock in American companies. Most of the young people I know don't really buy into the concept of renting out their money to largely unaccountable corporations. The government can't prop up that casino forever.

8. And given the fact he is speaking out as he is, that makes him a Whistleblower.
Whistleblowers are essential in this corrupt system, and I have great respect for them.

Deep contrast with Mr. President.

32. Look out whistleblowers...
Willard “Clint” Carte worked hard to get Obama elected in 2008; now as an attorney for the Department of Homeland Security, he is apparently making life miserable for a government official who’s refusing to obey his demands.

New emails and testimony from Department of Homeland Security FOIA officer Catherine Papoi reveal that a former Obama campaign staffer repeatedly asked Papoi and her team to redact portions of “politically sensitive” documents, as well as portions of documents that were already publicly available.

Papoi, who came under fire at DHS for complaining that “sensitive” FOIA requests were being vetted by political employees, testified on March 3 that Willard “Clint” Carte, a DHS attorney with the title of “confidential assistant,” attempted to block a FOIA request for DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano’s calendar in which Napolitano’s secretary had referred to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as “Senator Clinton.” According to Papoi’s testimony, Carte asked that Clinton’s title be changed on the calendar in order to spare the department “embarrassment.”

“The front office wanted that changed before the response went out the door and we were pushing back saying that once you cast your net and retrieve a record, you can’t alter a record because of mere embarrassment,” Papoi said in her testimony.
...
When asked by the Oversight Committee investigators why Carte wanted to redact portions of the Judicial Watch request that were already publicly available, and thus not suited to redaction under b5, Papoi said, “This was an instance where either they weren’t aware it was made public or they simply did not want to release the information. Which one, I am not sure.”

Papoi claims that she was demoted within DHS for raising concerns about the FOIA process.

7. Right from the start he talks about poor people. That is very unusual.
I wish I could be at that teach in. (Which is what I have been advocating here here for years).

However, the rest of his interview he concentrated on everything else except poverty.

As much as I really like Dr. West, I don't hold out much hope of being included.

Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 02:10 PM by Mimosa
This is a great interview. Like me, West was an early supporter of Obama. He sees exactly what some of us are seeing.

Cornel West perfectly describes the shift in Obama's direction and how we all are affected.

I'm one of the 'ordinary people' West mentioned who provided Obama with financial and spiritual support during his candidacy. This time I have nothing to give. How many of us are poorer today than we were in 2007 and 2008?

:patriot:

When the Working Class & The Poor realize WE have more in common with each other
than we have in common with the Ruling Class Elite leadership of BOTH political parties,
then we can DEMAND "CHANGE".

Who will STAND and represent THIS American Majority?
Lofty Rhetoric, Empty Promises, and Excuses mean NOTHING now.
"By their WORKS you will know them,"
and by their WORKS they will be judged.
