Gov. Rick Scott's proposed budget will cut $4.5 million from Crime Stoppers
Gov. Rick Scott's proposed budget will cut $4.5 million from Crime Stoppers

St. Petersburg, Florida - It's a program that's led to 44,501 arrests, 80,690 cleared cases and 347,122 anonymous tips.

But if Gov. Rick Scott has his way, Crime Stoppers of Florida could be going away.

Scott's proposed budget includes taking $4.5 million from the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund and moving it to general revenue.

"If that trust fund were to be totally swept to zero, it would devastate Crime Stoppers throughout the state of Florida," said Lisa Haber of Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay.

1. Why would a criminal be interested in funding Crime Stoppers? nt

2. It is illegal for them to try to use that money for other purposes
That money comes from a part of court fees which are specifically BY LAW set to be used by Crime Stoppers:

938.06 Additional cost for crime stoppers programs.--

(1) In addition to any fine prescribed by law for any criminal offense, there is hereby assessed as a court cost an additional surcharge of $20 on such fine, which shall be imposed by all county and circuit courts and collected by the clerks of the courts together with such fine.

(2) The clerk of the court shall collect and forward, on a monthly basis, all costs assessed under this section, less $3 per assessment as a service charge to be retained by the clerk, to the Department of Revenue for deposit in the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund, to be used as provided in s. 16.555.

Prick Scott is as clueless on the way government works as Eric Cantor and Scott Walker.

3. It may be illegal today
But, Prick has the state legislature doing his bidding...and I'll bet they're looking at changing that law.

He already cut off the physically and mentally disabled with an executive order...do you really think that this totally devoid of hunanity piece of rat excrement isn't going get his way?

And remember, if you're from Florida...that the legislature helped him do this!

4. Yeah, I am from Florida - and I find it hard to believe anyone voted for Prick
Though I know many of neighbors probably did.

I am so worried about what is going to happen to my state in the next few years.

8. I don't think the police support him either.
I can't help but speaking up each morning at the 7-11 while getting my coffee and a donut. I haven't had anyone say a good word about the

prick at all. When I'm there, it's mainly teachers on their way to work, cops just beginning shift and some working folks.

I'm gonna have to do some freeway blogging on 31st st s. in my neck of the woods starting this week.

9. One would hope the a lot of good cops that voted for Scott won't
make a mistake like that again. When the law and order party takes power, it practices anything but law and order.
