2,000 Protesters March On Koch Industries’ D.C. Office
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 03:14 PM by liberal life
In Washington, D.C. today an estimated 2,000 protesters marched on Koch Industries’ Washington D.C. offices and attempted to give Charles and David Koch an invitation to come out and speak with the protesters. Not surprisingly, the building’s doors were locked and no one was allowed inside. However, a representative from the real estate company which managed the building told an handful of organizers who attempted to deliver the invitation, “I’d be here with you guys if I wasn’t working right now.” Noting that he works for the building, not Koch, he said, “I don’t want to be here.”

Last Thursday, tea party activists rallied on Capitol Hill to pressure Republican lawmakers to cut government spending. Crowd estimates ranged from “dozens” to “fewer than 200,” yet the event attracted dozens of reporters and significant media interest, producing hundreds of stories in local and national press. At today’s rally, which was ten times bigger than the tea party one, ThinkProgress spotted three reporters — none from mainstream publications.

7. I like this comment on the article

"I am really leaning towards petitioning the FCC to take away the licenses to use OUR airwaves from these "news" organizations. They do nothing to inform and too much to push their (and the monied interests) agenda. News is dead"

Can we do that? How do we do this?

8. "News Organizations" Aren't Licensed
The cables are not regulated by the FCC...it's strictly the marketplace and the "mercy" of the cable operators. You could go after the licenses of broadcast stations, but good luck on that. Besides the long and expensive process (and you'd have to do this for each and every station) there hasn't been a successful license challenge in nearly 40 years.

The ugly truth is there are millions who prefer to live in the right wing bubble world. They do it willingly and look to "their media" as a daily affirmation of their already rockhard positions. Making Faux Noise go away won't make these people vanish. Sadly this country has gotten stuck on stupid...raised on "American Exceptionalism" and manipulated by politicians and corporations to believe up is down.

10. With Whose Money?
There are approximately 6,000 broadcast licenses out there...most held by corporations. I'm all for going after many of these stations but whose gonna pay the legal bills? The FCC appears content on allowing the "deregulation" that destroyed the public airwaves to continue. So good luck. The corporates know they own the airwaves and there's little fight within Congress to change it.
