My husband tells me that if you move to bellville kansas, you can have |
|
up to $15k of your student loans forgiven. Not sure the specs, but Bob lived there when he was young. One of the many places he lived growing up as his family moved a lot. He says there are less than 2000 people living there currently. I asked him what they have there for jobs and such. I mean who will move to a small town if there are no jobs around? But it begs the question... would you move somewhere if you were offered such a thing as having your student loans wiped out?
Now, I live in WNY. I live in the country, but I live between buffalo and rochester. I think about Kansas and Dr Tiller being murdered. I think about how republican the area might be. Granted, i live in a republican area of wny. But I don't think even for the price of my student loans could I isolate myself even more than I already am. My whole family is here.

3. No jobs, no work, no money to live on. Sorry, |
|
but I would rather live in a place where I could have a job where I could pay off my loans myself and still eat.

5. If They are THAT Desperate for New Residents, Something Must be Terribly Wrong |

I'd check for Superfund sites and the like in the area if you are actually considering this.

9. A lot of small towns are doing this now. |
|
And no Superfund sites near there that I am aware of. Just a lot of cows and wheat fields.

7. why would you ever consider moving from western New York? |
|
Very pleasant living out there, though I slightly prefer the area around Cooperstown, myself.

11. i don't want to move. our house is paid off, we live next to a state wildlife preserve. |
|
have a good school, though i wonder what is going to happen now that they've lost so much money. I know bob said the property taxes are going up like $200 dollars. our property taxes aren't that much for our place.but my whole family lives here too and i am very family oriented. i was just interested what people thought about this idea.

8. Well it's pretty much out in the middle of nowhere |
|
You'd be 2 hours from Manhattan, (the nearest city), 3 hours from Topeka and 4 hours from KC. And yes, it's pretty red in that part of Kansas.
But getting your loans forgiven is a good trade, IMO. And Kansas is a relatively easy place to live - very affordable. You can buy a lot of house for your money here.

It's populated by cannibal zombies that lure victims with the promise of forgiving part of their student loans.
