26. well...I did vote for Obama, but.....
I am VERY disappointed in how he capitulates at the slightest hint of opposition. Great speeches are one thing...but when you campaign on issues...then once you're in...you forget completely what you said in your campaign...it makes you no better than the other charlatans in the race. I unfortunately have been had by a great speech giver...who delegates his fighting for issues to others....If he was REALLY for health care reform and not health "insurance" reform....I might feel different...but that was his first mistake IMO...his second?....caving on the tax cuts for the rich....yeah yeah...benefits for the unemployed were "hostage"...but...I was also unemployed...and still am...and I would have rather lost my benefits...which I did soon after...than to give one damn red cent of tax breaks to the rich...f*ck em!

10. Scare tactics - that's why you DON'T support republicans but does nothing to answer why
the Democrats deserve our support. Oh please please please tell me it's not another - because they are better than the republicans post!

Ok. Lets say - totally theoretically obviously and in no way partaining in in particular way to the upcoming election: It's Stalin vs Hitler. It's a two-party system! You have to vote for one of them right?

Well we have a two party system - one that has been bought by mega-corporations regardless of whether the person has a (D) or and (R) in front of their name.

So, I ask again WHY SHOULD we elect the Dems. You've given great reasons not the vote for the republicans, but none for voting FOR Dems.

They are pushing back against every horrible draconian Republican "initiative" that comes their way.

It is fun to be all theoretical, but what is happening in those states is a wake up call to anyone who is rational.

36. Local races are different than national - local Dems
are very different than the national ones these days. (easy to see why when only 50-60 Dems in the senate so like only 12 or so need be bought - same percentages in the house just more of them which is why house Dems seem less bought - they are less bought - and more apt to change). i posted about how i plan to vote for almost all my local Dems in 2012. but the national Dems, their values, their priorities, seem to have been completely bought with corporate $$$$. i see no way i can support that kind of corruption - and the horrible future it will bring when both parties are bought and owned at the top by the super rich and powerful.

i hope the local Dems can teach the national Dems to re-claim their values and priorities and start choosing The People over Wall Street and mega corporations. Obama's got 4 more years to try - if he ever decides to start. He'll win in 2012 I feel sure, but he will do it without my vote. I'll vote for a true positive future - not just one that's not quite as shitty as the one the republicans are pimping. National Dems lost my vote because they would not fight for The People. pure and simple.

16. Reluctantly... grudgingly...
Yes, I'll do what I can to help elect more democrats - but even if I had money I wouldn't be donating it to them unless they gave me a damned good reason to. Not that it matters... they don't need what I can contribute (or at this time, CAN'T contribute) financially.

I'm very, very disappointed in our elected democrats, including our President. I'll vote for them because it's a choice of two evils. I'll vote for them because I'm terrified of what the right would do to this Country, given the power. However - I add this... if our democrats continue down the same path until 2016 that they seem to have been on for a number of years now... they will lose me, completely. I won't go right, I'll simply sit out. I'm damn tired of believing and trying and getting shit in return - even getting contempt from people I once admired. I'm damn tired of the constant back room deals and the caving in to the right. The lack of courage and integrity among so many of these people that a large number of us work to support.

I'm pissed, I'm frustrated and I'm extremely disappointed. I'll vote... but without much hope. My only consolation will be that I voted for corrupt politicians that aren't as bad as those on the other side.

40. Like eating a horribly rotten egg compared to a slightly less horribly rotten egg?
your argument is logically flawed in that it can and often does leave you with two bad choices - which isn't really a choice at all - it just seems that way.

we are having good cop/bad cop played on us and people don't even realize it. i'll take the good Orwellian cop! woah wait - i don't really want a cop! what the hell kind of rigged game are we playing?

Sad because the need exists, and amusing because DU all too often considers itself representative of, and even the only real voice of, the "base" when nigh 9/10 of the party's most liberal bloc support him, and yet DU is apparently evenly divided at best.

37. Most people who call themselves "liberal" are not as informed as the average DU reader
it's a label to them - like hippie or nerd. sure they like Obama - compared to batshit crazy republicans. but if they were educated about Bernie Sanders (i bet if you ask 100 people who call themselves liberals over half would mis-identify Bernie Sanders in some way) wouldn't most choose that route instead of the pro-corporate path Obama has chosen for us all? i think they would.

people are uninformed - they are uninformed about the final stages of capitalism, they are uninformed in general - on purpose as set forth by the corporate Mainstream Media to keep people as dumbed down as possible, and they choose to be uninformed because to truly examine and understand the depth of the problems we face would be too much for most people. hell it's too much for many here on DU. some here actually think Obama is a GOOD option. lol. sigh... he's a poor option among even poorer options - at best. yay america.

Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 12:24 PM by dmallind
One of two people will get to lead this country 2013-2017. Obama or whatever nutjob the Rs decide on. That's it. Oh in some idealized state where everyone is both deeply involved in politics and imbued with both deep foresight and a strong sense of universalized utilitarian ethics, maybe we could find better choices and better ways. In the interim even we smug higher-level folk have to live in reality with the ill-informed rabble who also have votes, and that same universalized utilitarian ethos should inform us all that working for Obama maximizes the felicife calculus, which includes minimizing harm as well as maximizing benefit, for us all.

45. I can not and will not support a system where we choose between 2 pro-corporate millionaires
to run everything. cause like i said in a previous post - that ain't no choice at all. That is the sign of a corporate fascist state where people are given the ILLUSION of choice where the dividing difference is often only social issues - which those in power use, on purpose, to divide us - so THEY never lose. Like the Bush admin. And the Obama admin. Soooo horribly similar.

48. Even if your analysis of similarity were true, which I do not accept,
what you cannot and will not support has absolutely zero to do with what IS - the circumstances in which the moral agent makes a choice. I will bet a single dollar to $1000 that either the Dem or Rep nominee will succeed Obama, and that Obama will be the Dem nominee barring his death or a major scandal. Choosing "not-Obama" in that case is identical to choosing the Rep nominee. You may not like that; hell I may not like that, maybe most people may not like that, but that does not absolve any one of us from the very real ethical choice we have to make between A and B. There is no chance of C, so everyone gets to pick between just two, and everyone suffers from the poor choices of those who can not or will not go for the better of those two.

49. Oh I think Obama is going to win - but I do not think that is a good thing
we need a real man (person) of the people - a true progressive - as usual though - that will never be allowed by those in power - those with millions of dollars - to be an option.

and with choices like Obama vs generic republican - i will not get involved. call it a crisis of conscience but i can not vote between two corrupt criminals - even if i agree the republicans are worse. maybe that is what it will take to wake america up that both parties have betrayed us as this shit becomes more and more open and in their face. regardless - it will occur without my vote going to either Obama or the republican. i can not do it. it's a false choice - one i refused to be forced to make - i will create a third option if nobody primaries Obama. if Obama wins the primary, he still won't get my vote. he's a criminal in my eyes.

That's the same theme that has been making the rounds for decades now.

When, exactly, is that "later" going to come? When the Dems have finally and irrevocably sold out to their corporate masters, thus becoming nothing better than 'Pugs with a D behind their name? Well, that time is close, and when it arrives, we will have no chance to "bicker later".
