So elected Dems are going to roll over on Medicare?
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 09:22 PM by senseandsensibility
They have just been handed a hook to win in 2012, but I see no sign they will use it. Rachel and her guest from the Nation were practically frothing at the mouth about what an opportunity this is. And so far...one Dem on Hardball called it "courageous."

I'm getting a sick feeling...

1. No one has rolled over. As far as a 'sign' - why not wait a few days before bashing dems. n/t

This should be a no-brainer, and the response should be immediate.

5. What do you expect the Dems to do?
Knock down the doors on Rachel's or Ed's show immediately? Geez.

Why aren't you knocking on their doors asking them what they are going to do?

9. Because maybe your crystal ball is broken.
In the meantime call your Senators and Reps about Ryan's psychotic plan. That is what I am going to do.

25. The President has been telling us for two years he plans to cut Medicare and Medicaid
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 in a town hall meeting
During a town hall on health care, an audience member asked President Barack Obama about the cost of health care reform, and whether the government could afford to do it.

Obama's answer was a variation on the sales pitch, Can you afford not to?

"I think it's a very legitimate question," Obama began. "I guess that the first point I'd make is, if we don't do anything, costs are going to go out of control. Nobody disputes this. Medicare and Medicaid are the single biggest drivers of the federal deficit and the federal debt by a huge margin."

If we don't do something soon to rein in health care costs, Obama said, Medicare and Medicaid "will consume all of the federal budget."

Published January 26, 201
President Obama made clear in last night’s State of the Union address that his Administration will work with Congress to reduce Medicare and Medicaid spending as part of an effort to decrease the federal deficit.
The President did not offer any policy proposals for cutting these programs, but acknowledged the work of his bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, which supported nearly $400 billion in Medicare and Medicaid cuts, including a $60 billion cut to Medicare Graduate Medical Education.

26. There are a lot of GOOD things Obama said he would work on that would cut costs....
1) Allow Medicare to negotiate for cheaper drug prices, 2) Crack down on fraud, 3) Implement procedures that would cut down on overhead costs, 4) Promote digital records, etc.

ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE GOOD THINGS!!!

fighting the republicans in their states, and that's a good thing. I see none of the Dems fighting the bullshit rhetoric that the republicans are putting out about the budget and programs on the national stage.

14. But think of all the money we'll save!
Shoot, there could even be enough for another round of tax cuts for Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen and other multi-millionaires.

Yeah, Ryan's little scheme isn't some "Whoops, look what fell out of Paul's mouth" moment. He and his pals have been pushing this forward in bigger and smaller ways for weeks, if not months. The signals have been clear and unmistakable, and for ANY Democrat to be caught off guard is unconscionable. For any Democrat to call it "courageous" just beggars description.

We're getting sold down the river by the people we worked real hard to put into office.

17. It's a better strategy to let the media have time first to report on the Ryan plan....
then have the democrats come out 24 to 48 hours later to attack them.
Gotta let the GOP have some rope to hang themselves first - before yanking on the noose!

18. 17 Democratic Governors Launch Preemptive Strike Against Paul Ryan's Medicaid Proposal

WASHINGTON -- Seventeen Democratic governors have signed and sent a letter to congressional leaders stating their firm opposition to a Medicaid reform proposal championed by House Republicans.

The letter, sent on Monday, is a preemptive strike of sorts against House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) before he unveils a 2012 budget proposal that is expected to endorse turning Medicaid into a block grant program.

“We strongly oppose a congressionally-mandated block grant of federal Medicaid spending, which would shift costs and risk to states,” the governors wrote. “Such a cost shift would severely undercut our ability to provide health care to our residents and adequately pay providers.”

Added the signatories: “We are concerned that Congress, in an attempt to reduce the federal deficit, may pursue the exact opposite course of action by creating a mandated block grant which would do little to address cost growth while shifting costs to states and threatening program integrity.”

Not being sarcastic, here. But I'd like to hear the same from the people who will actually have to make the decision.

Seems like everyone could give the dems 24 hours before bitchin' about 'em ;)

23. The dem reps and senators shouldn't say anything until after it is released on Tuesday.
Commenting on something they haven't read or seen or that hasn't even been introduced yet isn't a great idea.
I betcha a lot of dems will be on the shows tomorrow AFTER Ryan's proposal as been released.
