Stuff the GOP's "Color Copies" Defense Cut Could Buy
House Republicans' bold proposal to slash military spending: no more color or glossy copies! Here's what else they could have cut to save the same amount.
Adam Weinstein

Hoping to look tough on military affairs and on budget-tightening, House Republicans Monday passed a plan to cut waste in the Department of Defense: They want the agency to stop printing color copies and using high-quality and glossy paper. "Favoring a plain, black and white copy that uses both sides of the paper can still get the job done," Majority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) says. The total savings to declare war on fancy copies? $37.5 million this year.

If you're having trouble visualizing how that stacks up with the United States' other military spending, here are a couple of easy comparisons: images of other "national security" stuff the GOP could have cut to save the same amount. And check out the full story, "GOP's Plan to Cut Defense: No More Color Copies!"

2. Hey Cantor, Here's another good idea, instruct your staff to use both sides of their toilet paper!

3. Wipe, refold or re-wad and do again.

Or better yet, use your shirt tail. That can be washed, saving even more.
