Wisconsin report from the local polling place. |
|
I just came from seven hours of collecting Grothman Recall signatures (don't worry, another good man is on duty) out in the parking lot of our local polling place. By my unscientific judgement, this looks like a Presidential election-sized turnout.
This is a pretty red area, and as I expected, lots of people came and went and refused to make eye contact. A few came over and asked how we could support recalling Grothman, how we could side with "those protesters in Madison who destroyed the capitol." One guy told us to "get jobs! I'm tired of supporting you" (both of us are retired, my colleague after a 30+ year in law enforcement, me 30+ in healthcare).
But more than 30 people came over and signed the petitions before I left. That's alot in this small community.
Based on what I know, and my unproven prognostication skills, here's my take on the recall efforts in Wisconsin over the next 10 months.
...Kapanke - toast
...Hopper - toast
...Olson - toast
...Darling - toast
...three other Republican State Senators - very much at risk
...Glen Grothman - will have to face recall election, but will likely win (very, very RED district).
...Walker - toast, but not until next January.

5. Special elections are ... special ... I think it's hard to anticipate |
|
how much the other side will throw at saving these people.
My own experience teaching college says that if you can get a student to commit to saying in the first week or two that things are going well in a course they'll stick with that all the way to the end of the term.
So, Walker and Cronyism Inc have done things to make voters unhappy rather than happy and I'd expect people won't change their opinions much between now and July...and the number of special elections and consequently their impact on the Legislture will be unprecedented.
So...while I agree and hope that we and a million other Badgers see the recalls end in turnover of the legislature, I'm saying just how voters will turn out and how they will lean on their ballot in the special will be an unknown until it happens.

6. Scuba, you really rock man, and thank you for all you are doing to keep this movement alive and |
|
growing. I'm proud to call you a friend and what we are doing today, will save this country from the additional, extreme, psychotic Republicon/Koch rule that would have come had we done nothing. Thanks Lou

11. But you're not factoring in that these monsters have angered the small town (R)'s |
|
And if my gut is right, they have lost these people for this election AND a couple generations.
