1. I wonder why they think it's a good idea to put the candidate's names in a grey bar w/white font?
Talking Points Memo will also be following the race, although not nearly as detailed as the AP link.

On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Plunge right through that line!
Run the ball clear down the field,
A touchdown sure this time. (U rah rah)
On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Fight on for her fame
Fight! Fellows! - fight, fight, fight!
We'll win this game.

On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Stand up, Badgers, sing!
"Forward" is our driving spirit,
Loyal voices ring.

Raise her glowing flame
Stand, Fellows, let us now
Salute her name!

130. Waukesha Co. was about 3-1 Prosser. It's a suburb of Milw.
Very conservative, voting true to form. Milw. has a relatively large blue-collar & black population, typically votes liberal overall. They had a long succession of Socialist mayors. (Google Frank Zeidler sometime). Also watch some of the northern counties, Douglas in particular. That's where Superior is & it has always been very far left (Scandinavian socialists).

Dog I hope so.

I am a few miles from the edge of Fond du Lac, I should know this. I thought I remember that they were somewhat left.

Rachel reported that the lines in Fond du Lac were so long they ran out of ballots.

72. This is facinating
I cannot ever remember a time when the whole country was watching the returns of a particular State's judicial election.

It just reinforces how nasty and polarizing our politics have become. We are supposed to have and independant Judiciary. Those days are gone.

80. I hear yeah....
I think this is the 1st clear referendum on Republican governance coming out of the 2010 elections. I don't know how to read these results, but if Prosser wins, Republicans will assume they have a mandate to create one party rule. OTOH, if our side wins, it's going to have to be huge to be meaningful.

89. It's true
Both sides are looking at this race as some kind of finger in the wind. The National Review had an article that was posted here and the comments pretty much confirmed it. The pro Walker teabaggers see it as another nail in the coffin of Unions. The progressive/liberals see it as a wake up call to the union supporters.

It's all about GOTV. Winners show up at the polls so we'll see who was motivated the most.

Either way it goes, it will be perceived as a huge win.

138. Kloppenberg - Rural Vote - Bigger % for Joanne than 11/2010
L. Coyote posted the Democratic candidates percentage of the vote by county. I've checked 4 or 5 of the counties where the Democratic candidate lost in November 2010 against how our candidate is running tonight.

She's doing significantly better in these counties:

Barron
Brown
Columbia
Monroe
Oneida

Nights like these I wished I was at work where I have double monitors so I keep cross-checking. I am very optimistic.

201. You know what gets me about these "known" red areas...
(And I do not doubt at all your inside knowledge of the Waukesha people and area) but it reminds me of Florida's "Dixiecrat" counties. I think the thugs just USED and FED the public perception of that area being "red" so they could flip and pad and skim votes and nobody would question the results. In that case, i don't believe Florida is as red as they tell us it is.

Add to that that Kloppenburg is already down in total count 17,965 as of 10:18 pm would put her down ~55,000 votes.

331. You realize it's almost unheard of for a sitting SC judge to lose, right?
And that the Milwaukee County seat held by the now Gov was just VERY handily won by the liberal?

The race isn't called yet, but even if it is, it's almost unprecedented for a sitting SC judge to lose.

241. We now LEAD BY A 1,000 VOTES,

What is interesting is that Milwaukee still hasn't moved. Only 284/486 have reported. Its been like that for a while. This movement back and forth over the last 2 reports have nothing to do with Milwaukee.

Not sure how many more registered voters, but the point is that Dane is going to more than offset Waukesha. What we need are some stronger numbers from Milwaukee.

322. Your post just reminded me of a post I remember reading during the Obama/Clinton primaries
The Guam caucus was taking place and every election/caucus was a death battle. The vote in Guam was particularly close. And it was going to come down to the largest (or maybe Capitol) city, a place called Dededo. And we were all waiting on pins and needles for the final results to come in from that one outstanding city. An Obama supporter (I was with Clinton) said: "I can't believe I'm sitting here worrying about what's going to happen in some place called Dededo."

324. I noticed that, too. Waukesha has just under 260,000 registered voters -- see
this PDF file:

http://gab.wi.gov/sites/default/files/page/reg_voters_by_county_august_2010_pdf_15332.pdf

so 86,000 reported so far probably would be over half the precincts even with high voter turnout.

I'm still worried about Waukesha, but not as worried as I was earlier...

Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 10:57 PM by louis c
Fond Du Luc cast nearly 38,000 votes last year for Governor, voting nearly 2 to 1 for the Dem. considering Koplenburg is outperforming those totals, even a 10,000 vote drop off can mean a 10,000 vote Dem margin. Keep an eye on that place.

Waukesha: 198/130*(81255+29332)/ 261405 = 64%

397. Updates from Swing State tweets
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 11:54 PM by Tx4obama
# SwingState

If in fact Waukesha and Ozaukee have, contra AP, reported all their votes, then that gets Kloppenburg within 0.1% 2 minutes ago via Echofon

# Swing State

About 40 more Dane precincts came in, but they were empty (as in, unused precincts). That's brutal for Kloppenburg in our model. Swing 3.87% 6 minutes ago via Echofon

http://twitter.com/SwingState

Edited to add:

# SwingState

So we were right: Waukesha WAS done, and AP has finally shown it - no new votes came in with final batch of precincts 4 minutes ago via Echofon

The debate stopped at Pres. Obama's skin color. It will never get any further than that. Some people are blinded by it. The GOP can tell these same conservatives that they'll come into their homes and slice their arms off. No matter what, they'll still support the GOP.

I can imagine if Jesus were black, these same conservatives would likely take the side of the devil whether than praising a black man. Just my opinion.

It looks pretty good if they are really remaining, but I'd hate to lose an election by around 500 votes if there aren't any more votes to be counted. At least we still have absentees to count!

Though that may mean that if there are still remaining votes to be counted, if they are in suburbs, they might go more to Prosser, if the city's precincts are 100% counted.

509. I did some calculations
There are 34 Precincts still to be counted, including 8 in Milwaukee County and 1 in Dane County, the 2 largest areas of the state and overwhelmingly voted for Kloppenburg. Here are the numbers (only those that had votes still out were listed, and no direct Excel 2010 support in this forum).

Total 3596/3630 733,074 732,489 1,465,563 1675
50% 50% 1
Ashland 22/28 1,037 2,504 3,541 126.4642857 758.7857143 319

Juneau 28/29 2,337 2,546 4,883 168.3793103 168.3793103 7
48% 52% 1
Milwaukee 474/486 95,129 125,090 220,219 453.1255144 5437.506173 761

Taylor 29/30 3,602 2,266 5,868 195.6 195.6 -43
61% 39% 1

If the numbers hold, Kloppenburg should gain a net of 1675 votes from those remaining with a current deficit of 585. This will be recounted either way, no matter what happens tonight.

514. The problem with saying we have "x number of districts left"
Is that the AP has been TERRIBLE in updating their numbers in sync all night. For all we know, all the precincts that they have as being still unreported are actually done, and their totals are reflected in the numbers we're seeing. I hope that's not the case, but I'm skeptical.
