Libertarians are heartless bastards |
|
I have a relative who keeps forwarding me libertarian bullshit. Usually I delete them without even reading them, but this one caught my eye with the headline "Paul Ryan is worse than Bill Clinton".
Basically the gist of the email is that they're upset with the rethugs for not cutting enough. Here's an excerpt from the email:
<snip> Libertarians would cut the federal government down to less than 10% of GDP, and we'd keep cutting once we got there <snip>
This is what we face if the teabaggers ever win control of the White House and a veto-proof Congress.

5. My father was a libertarian when young. |
|
He was/is neither heartless nor stupid, but he did not then nor does he now understand human nature, or human frailty. He isn't stupid, he was a physician/surgeon and it's not as if he's a sociopath either: he is just missing a critical piece of the puzzle. He is now a grossly disillusioned rethug who has figured out the Pox is not a news source. I'm mentioning this only because while it's tempting to demonize our political opponents, it isn't fair or accurate.

10. When looking at their policies and the effects they would have, it's hard not to |
|
Sure, it's one thing to say that you want to reign in government spending. But when you're talking about slashing social services that millions of Americans rely on, when you're talking about gutting education (remember, many Libertarians favor eliminating the Dept. of Education), without regard for the consequences of those actions, that seems rather heartless. They're more concerned with dollar signs than they are human lives. And just about every libertarian/teabagger I've run across really couldn't care less if someone was hurt by their policies. Their view is that if they can't help themselves, then fuck them.
